| just been told my 14 month yorkie likely fatal auto immune disease Just got heartbreaking news my yorkie most likely has auto immune disease of some sort and is on high doses of prednisone for next few weeks. She was runt of litter and weighs in only 3 pds st 14 months. The neurologist did blood work ruling out most bacterial, viral and curable diagnosis with Antibiotics. Take her back in 3 weeks to see if any remission but understand this most likely fatal in deciding when to let her go. Right now she walking in wide circles to right and right eye wants to wander to the right. Heartbroken and limited funds (tho my understanding is not much to be done anyways. Has anyone had success after steroids with diet or some other homeopathic treatment?? Anyone else have yorkie turn around with this? Everything I read is they rarely make it to their second birthday. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi - welcome to YT, but I'm so sorry it's under such sad circumstances. I'm so very sorry your baby is so sick, and may not recover. What is the name of the actual disease, so we can try to help? You will both remain in my thoughts....I'll be hoping for good news.

| Oh, my goodness. I'm so sorry to read this. Your poor little baby!!! I know you are devastated. This site can be a wonderful support system to help you deal with things as they come, even the worst things so be sure to stay on, stay involved. I sure hope you can tell us the name of it so someone might have known of something that treated this disease or its symptoms successfully and prevented the dog from suffering needlessly. Did the vet say it is always 100% fatal in all dogs or just likely in your dog's case? I'd be considering a second opinion, just to be sure of the diagnosis and eventual "fatal" outcome. I'll be praying for your baby and you.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog My prayers for this little sweet dog. Try not to look too far ahead. We do not know what will happen tomorrow. Take each day and really love your dog. I hope someone will come up with the right meds or something to help her. I would look into a second opinion if possible. You never know what another dr. could find for you. All of life is a gift. Keep us informed about your precious Yorkie and we will pray for her healing. |

| How heartbreaking to hear such devastating news. I am so sorry you are going thru this. Please, contact your breeder....no breeder that has any compassion at all...never mind ethics or integrity....will sit by or walk away, when one of their babies is diagnosed with such a terrible disease, resulting in such a devastating outcome. Additionally, your breeder needs to know she has a breeding pair that has produced this problem. Hopefully, she will help support you during this terrible circumstance that is a result of a puppy she produced and sold to you. As a breeder, we understand that something unplanned and unforseen can always crop up, but this is why so much effort and study and research and planning goes into our pedigrees and lines for many generations back, and breeding pairs, so we can avoid such outcomes. When these outcomes do appear, your breeder needs to know what she has produced, and she will most certainly want to be there with you, support you, and even stewp up and do something to "make this right"......What is the actual diagnosis given to you? There are many people on here that have a wide involvement with many, many different vets, from all over this country.....there may be different solutions available to you. Hopefully, we can help you through this. |

| I am so sorry that you are going through this. As for the questions about diagnosis, my reading of the OPs post is that funds are limited so an exact diagnosis is not determined; but the neurologist ruled other things out and they usually do know what is going on. Unless a person is going to treat, there is not much sense in doing a lot of testing....and, as she was informed, the outcome is usually not a good one. If it is GME which is what I am guessing they think, then treatment would be pretty much what they are doing. OP, as for homeopathic, I dare say it is not something I would attempt. This is a deadly illness and the steroids are the best chance of buying time so to speak. I hate to sound negative, but it seems that the neuro was pretty forthright about this. I will keep you and your baby in my thoughts and prayers. I hope she responds to the meds and you have some good quality time with her...no matter how long that will be. Remember that none of us or our animals have an expiration date, so live each day to the fullest!

| Mercys condition First, thankyou for all the thoughts and prayers, was touched by all. In reading all the comments LadyJane pretty much was spot on in her post. They almost sure either GME or Necrotizing encephalitis. There was a suggestion of possible chemo for year- year an half but no guarantees .im sad to say that is simply unaffordable to us.. The prednisone has her in good condition for now and will see neurologist in 3 weeks. Ive been reading tons of info and learning what I can. Will be checking back in here with my new friends, but not sure of my navigating this sight. Please have patience with me as Im not even sure if this will post! |

| My heart breaks for you. I would also check around, sometimes there are grants and funds for treatments. Search for them. Does anyone know any links or names of any organizations who have this kind of thing available? I'll do some searching this evening too.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I am so very sorry. I don't know a lot about AIDs but from my own experience I do know that some can result in the worse possible outcome. More than likely your pup will need to be on meds for the remainder of her life. I pray that your pup responds to the meds and will do well with them. Prayers and Hugs !!!
