| I have two personal pups who have had FHOs and I have had a few fosters who had it. The surgery does sound barbaric and I was totally horrified when it was suggested to me the first time. I did a lot of reading and speaking with people about it and went ahead with it even though it just totally creeped me out. The day after surgery, I opened my back door to let some pups out thinking I would put a leash on this little one who had the surgery...he RAN out the door. I remember standing there in shock! They really do well after this surgery. They don't have the restrictions that they have after other ortho surgeries because there really isn't much to *undo* I suppose. I think you will be pleasantly surprised...and your baby will soon be out of pain.

| Yes, I can tell she is in pain. She is not rambunctious like normal. I can just giver her tramadol or the Nsaids as needed for now. I am hoping things turn out as everyone says. Everyday I promise her, it is going to get better...like she understands me. Judging from the x-ray I saw, I think she must be miserable and it breaks my heart. It makes sense once I see how they cover the top of the bone with the outer joint capsule which makes for a smooth gliding surface. It just is a little archaic in the human world. One of the docs I work with said, well, we weigh a lot more and walk on only 2 paws. I showed him a pic of the x-ray and he said he would get the surgery done, either that or the hip could potentially fuse with arthritis. I try not to worry, but I do. One day at a time. |

| Well, Rubi is one week post-op and progressing well. She is starting to weight bear w/toe touching. We have been just starting some weight shifting ex, her physical therapist mom can't help it, lol. We do it with toys so she thinks it is her idea. I am happy we did it. The last week before the surgery, she seemed more and more in pain. She was definitely in pain when I took her home, I probably saw the worst of it since the vet let me take her home that night. He knows the orthopedic surgeon I work with and I guess he figured she would be well cared for. She managed to be quite crafty in spite of her e-collar, so I had to wrap her up with some coband bandage to keep her out of her sutures. She also had a full-time attendant sleeping next to her the first night. Me in a sleeping bag. Rubi, is starting to be like her old Yorkie self now. She and I set up a pillow strategy for her to get on and off the couch, lol. I accidentally put some pillows there so I could be on the floor with her and the next thing I know she is using them as a ladder. I am glad we did the surgery. She now has sutures out and e-collar off. She still has a shaved butt, but she gets a little better every day. Thank G-d, I was so worried. Last edited by gati1263; 08-24-2013 at 06:09 PM. |

| I'm so glad she is doing better. They are brave little souls. The healing process of rehab is a long one. Hang in there and she will be fine.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. But I do need to ask and encourage you to let the breeder know this situation. Through registered mail if she does not respond to email. This is a genetic condition and her dogs should not be bred together again. You also might consider posting the breeders name/kennel on a review here and the breeding parents name too.
