Mike I am so sorry to read today that Eddie is having problems. I really hope something can be done to help him that you can both be comfortable with. I will keep you all in my prayers for a good outcome.

Surgery is set for next Monday. I'm confident I have a great surgeon at the best facility in the state.

They wanted to keep him overnight in an empty office, but I elected to transport him to a 24/7 facility so someone can keep an eye on him. The surgeon said he'd be better off with the peace and quiet of an empty office, but I'm not comfortable leaving a heavily sedated dog unattended. Hope it's the right decision.

You're definitely wise to do the surgery and take him to a surgeon and a 24 he hospital. We did this with our Barney who was 11.5 at the time. I am glad I did it, he is now almost 13 and walks perfectly. Best wishes!!

I agree with your thinking and would do the same with my boys. Very happy to hear you found a great surgeon. I am sorry you both have to go through this again and can imagine how hard it is to keep an active boy quiet for any amount of time. Eddie is strong and is in great hands.

Totally agree. I won't leave mine overnight in any facility that does not have overnight staffing.

I'm going back and forth on the overnight. Just talked to the 24/7 facility -- which is my regular vet -- and asked what kind of environment he'd be kept in. He won't be isolated, he'd be in a cage not far from all their other activity. So if there's a lot going on that particular night, he likely won't get much rest.

I may wait and see what time he comes out of surgery and how long the surgeon's facility will be watching him. If he's out of surgery by noon and someone will be at the facility until 10 or 11, I'd be more inclined to leave him there. But if he's the last surgery of the day and doesn't come out of anesthesia until 7 or 8, I'd be less inclined to leave him there overnight.

I just know I'll be a mess waiting for them to open at 6:30 a.m. if I leave him there.

I feel for you. I know how agonizing it is to have a pup in the hospital. I am fortunate here in that the surgeon I use is at a 24 hour facility. I would not want to move one to another place either...and there is a lot to that part about the noise. I know that when mine are hospitalized they don't get a lot of rest because of the activity. One of the vets actually told me that.
