Eddie's limping :( Wish us luck at vet 2 Attachment(s) The day I've been fearing for three years may have arrived yesterday. Eddie starting limping on his back-right leg after an uneventful walk in fresh snow. He hasn't put any weight on it since. Three years ago, he had surgery to repair a cranial cruciate injury on his back-left leg. At the time, the surgeon told me that dogs who have surgery on one of their back legs will often require it on the other one because they start putting more weight on the good one. He has long had leg problems. In fact, before he had surgery on his left one, I'd originally brought him to the same vet because he was limping on his right one. He treated with Rimadyl and told me to give him a week to see how he responded. The right got better after four, but he started limping on the left and didn't stop. Over the years, he's limped occasionally on the right but it's always gotten better. He's never shown any pain. Even now, he just hobbles along like nothing's wrong. So right now, I'm leaving to see the same specialist who did the surgery on his other leg. I'm not going to leap into surgery this time, but I want to see what my options are. Eddie's almost 9, and I dread having to put him through another long and painful rehab. Wish us luck! Interestingly, the two pictures attached were taken 3 minutes apart. Other than running, I didn't see him do anything to injure it. His personality has been a little off lately, so maybe he was having issues and not showing me. |

Bad news. Vet recommended surgery. Ruptured cranial cruciate ligament, which is the same as the ACL in humans. Same thing he had done on his other leg 3 years ago. Only thing that bugs me is how sure he is that surgery\'s necessary. He manipulated the knee and said he could feel looseness. Called it a level 4, the worst rating. Ugh. Gonna give it some thought and see how he does on Rimadyl for a few days. |
