Yeah... Riley did Great with all of his puppy Shots and his Distemper, and Rabies, last year, but for some reason had a reaction to this Distemper. I have been reading and have found that actually a lot of pups do this. They will be fine the first couple of years and then suddenly react very Badly.... | |

| Riley got the Da2-CPV, which is: Distemper "D" Distemper is a virus that can cause severe respiratory, gastrointestinal, and neurological abnormalities in infected dogs. It is often fatal to dogs and/or puppies who are infected. Hepatitis (Canine Adenovirus Type 2) "A2" Canine adenovirus type 2 is a self limiting respiratory disease in dogs, but this component of the distemper vaccine also protects against canine adenovirus type 1, a virus that causes canine infectious hepatitis. Parvovirus "CPV" Parvovirus causes severe vomiting and diarrhea. Parvo has a high mortality rate. Puppies are most susceptible to infection, but any unvaccinated dog can contract Parvo. I spoke with his regular Vet's office, this a.m. and they are going to have his Vet give me a call Wednesday when he is in the office. I have to run a fecal by there this coming Saturday, because I left the on from this past Saturday on the dining room table, Yuck [it was in a snack baggie and wrapped in a napkin and was going to be the last thing I threw in my purse!! LOL!!! I told them I would drop a copy of all of his Emergency Room paperwork off with them, at that time. |

| This Was Interesting.... I got rid of Trupanion beginning of this year. Riley has his own Savings Account. I have been putting $43.77 automatically in it, which is what I was paying his insurance company…. And an additional $50.00 each paycheck. His ER Visit was $171.57 $149.00 for the Emergency Exam… $22.57 for the Benadryl shot…. So if I had still had the insurance I would have got a reimbursement of only $18.56! |

| hmm I have been going back and forth about getting the pups insurance but if it's not going to help that much then maybe I should just save the money. I have a care credit card right now for emergencies but it only has an $800 limit and I really need to get some dental things for myself. Luckily, the boyfriend has a high credit card limit that would most likely be utilized if (ugh god forbid) anything happens to ours. Geno sends his love and lots of wet kisses to his buddy Riley as he recovers!

| I think the shot works quicker and works for longer. So by the time the benedryl shot wears off, they are not having a reaction anymore, just like the oral benedryl. Dexter also gets a pain shot when he gets his vacs. He is extremely sensitive at the site of the shot. The first time he had them he wanted to just lay on me because he didn't feel good, but if I even lightly stroked him he would scream in pain.
