I think the shot works quicker and works for longer. So by the time the benedryl shot wears off, they are not having a reaction anymore, just like the oral benedryl. Dexter also gets a pain shot when he gets his vacs. He is extremely sensitive at the site of the shot. The first time he had them he wanted to just lay on me because he didn't feel good, but if I even lightly stroked him he would scream in pain.
