It may take a month or so for your dog to get used to taking a pill. It was a battle with Tink for over a month, but then she learned and has been taking her meds without incident most days for the past 3 years. Some pups love chicken baby food (Gerber stage 2) and a tiny bit can be used to hide the pill. I use a rubber tipped pill popper I got at the vets.

For any treats, check the % protein, as some are high in protein. Under 18% protein should be fine.

I think it is considered congenital. Here's a link all about LS. The Univ of Tenn has done research on LS for 30 years or so.

No, a shunt is a shunt and MVD is MVD, a dog can have either or both. A shunt is a vein that all puppies have, that noramally disappears right before birth or shortly after. MVD/HMD is Hepatic Microvascular Dysplaysia: MVD , basically the blood cannot flow correctly through the liver with MVD.

Can revolution, which is a flea, tick heartworm prevention med for pups and cats under 5lbs. Given 4 days prior to blood work and BAT test make # high? If I continue to read I think I will go nuts. I have read and researched every single site about what could be and can be wrong w Baci.

These are prescription diets, yes both are good. Until your vet prescribes one, I would try to stay around 18-20% protein.

There's a lot of info out there... I would recommend to just wait and see what the tests show at this point...

It is a possibility that it could have affected the results as it is technically considered a toxin, vaccines can too, as they are processed in the liver....Revolution is what my vet recommends for Tink, he said it's one of the safest to use for liver compromised dogs. Tink has never had a problem using it.

We know what you are going through, but getting ultrasound done is the best option for your baby.

I was the same way... my vet assured me that Liver disease is treatable. They can't always 'fix' it like a broken leg, but it is manageable.

Don't know if it's okay under your dog's specific circumstances, but I lure my pup with cheese. I cut pills by half and roll it with cheese. He smells and kind of knows there's more than cheese there, but he loves it. For him, liquid meds are more difficult, but a siringe does it, & give cheese after.

My precious Elle got sick back in May, and within 2 days, got so sick, I thought she wasn't going to make it. I rushed her to the vet, to find out that her liver enzyme tests were elevated. Her Alt or AST (can't remember which) came back at 1401, and normal is in the hundreds. After being hospitalized and sent to a Teaching Vet Clinic, they did an ultrasound and xray. Came back very abnormal. She was quicky prescribed Denosyl and Milk Thistle. Since then, her labs have been improving. We still aren't sure what has caused her to get sick in the first place, but hopefully everything will be okay for your baby.
