Im really ready to leave this post but you addressed me so I want to answer. I know Lindas heart is in the right place I know she always has the safety of the pups in mind. However when you do a post you should always think what is this going to accomplish and if one person says wello Im not going to post here anymore or Im leaving the forum maybe you need to think of your method of getting the point accross and deliver the message in a less threatening way. Hey I have had to change the wwway I posted myself I have turned people off with inaprropriate posts. And I watched the forum go downhill because of it. The forum is going in a more respectful manner and I want to support that.

Oh you have me all wrong. I was being sincere. I thought your advice was great, I just wish you would think about it and apply it to yourself. The very same things you accuse LJ of, may be seen by others in response to some of the things you post. I also hope you feel better for attacking her out of hand as you did, and I too wish you a lovely day.

I agree with you. I have typed and deleted a few times as I don't want to come across as accusatory. I agree with Ann as well and appreciate your input on this thread.

OP I am glad he is doing well. I know you were very scared.

I dont see it as an attack I see it as being stood up to and if you dish it out you better be able to take it.

EC's love getting to try to fix the original problem, plus whatever else has been "treated" at home. Please anyone reading this, if you are concerned that its an emergency, just ask for help. That's why there are ED's that are open 24 hrs a day for animals and people.

And, no, we don't feed people cotton balls. And, yes, I am an Emergency Medicine physician.

Well I concur for you I wouldnt give cotton balls either but an emergency medical physician is different than an emergency vet. The person who stated the cotton ball treatment didnt advocate that that be done she just gave her personal experience that An emergency vet had her do it. She has given me no reason to believe she lied about that so I choose to believe her

It is interesting that ALL I did was say that it might be dangerous and I suggested a vet. Then, someone got very defensive ....

So far no one has offered conclusive evidence it is a safe treatment...just because she was told to do it by one vet does NOT mean it is safe. Maybe she got lucky. If I were YM1 I would be wondering if indeed this was bad advice from the vet.....She says it was years ago and things are different. Yes, they are....frontal lobotomies used to be done on people.

As has already been done in this thread - there have been comparisons with people. I am not a vet. But my concern, as it was earlier, people read these "past experiences" as suggestions. Anyone going to a forum asking questions are seeking advice. Correct? So, by stating what has been done in the past is indirectly suggesting what someone should do. My concern is that these suggestions will then be followed, and someone will end up with a sick puppy or child at the EC. Granted I am not specialized in animals, but glass in either animals or children really doesn't physiologically cause different problems. For what it's worth.

Ive heard of the giving of the bread theory never from a vet Ive never had that kind of problem with one of my dogs. I saw it over the internet so the cotton ball theory didnt sound far fetching to do to me but there isnt anything like this that should be done without a vet telling you to do it

Exactly my point: People really do believe things posted on the internet whether there is substantiating documentation or not. AND...that is all I have said all along...if you think this is a valid treatment, check with your vet.

I was concerned for the same reasons and it is the only reason I posted in the first place.
