| Well, we have set our appointment with the specialist for July 11 that gives me time to do more research and be prepared. Charlie is doing well no problems to report. I sent an email to Dr Tobias at university of Tennessee to ask her opinion on some things about Charlie and that I found through her website I am hoping she will email me back. I will keep you all up to date please keep praying for Charlie.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Prayers for sweet Charlie. Did you ask what kind of stones he had? There are several different types of stones. That would be good information to have prior to your visit with the specialist.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I realized my last post was cryptic. Uric Acid stones are likely as a result of a genetic condition, separate from a liver shunt. The thread I posted talks about this, and btw Dalmations are not the only dogs that get this, so do Yorkies, and Black russian Terriers. there is a simple test as elaborated on that link I posted to test for the Status of your pup.

| I thought that the common stone when there's a liver shunt or MVD present is ammonium urate stones, I think it is the same as uric acid stones, right? |

| Dr Karen Tobias at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville is one of the best in the US. If this were my dog that is where I would go for liver shunt surgery. |

| Great News I have been working hard on research and was able to get through to someone at UT via email they have asked me to call them on Monday to discuss Charlie with them I am very excited to have someone there to discuss things with before my visit with the specialist here where I live. All of your prayers have been working please continue. Charlie is still doing well, he is enjoying the chicken and cheese diet LOL I cant get him to venture into vegetables or fruits tho any suggestions on how, other than to keep trying LOL

Glad he's liking the chicken and cottage cheese! Maybe try sneaking a few bits of fruit and veggies in with it. Mine really love carrots... maybe even more than chicken! Silly dogs! You can offer them cooked to make them softer (and not as noticeable?) Also, I'll slice and dice up some fruits and veggies and put them on the table for everyone (people too!) and as I'm munching away offer some to the dogs. They think they're getting real people food so they're more apt to try new things.
