I am glad she is through surgery. So many do well with MVD with diet and meds. My Cali has mild MVD and has done well on a low protein diet. I will keep you in my prayers that her recovery is speedy and you are home soon.

Thanks... Liver Shunt is a vein that bypasses the liver and allows the blood that is normally filtered and cleaned to be returned to the circulatory system full of nutrients and toxins picked up from the intestines.

A Bile Acid Test is the best way to determine how well the liver is functioning.

Some early symptoms are UTIs, picky eaters, lethargy, slow growth rate, difficulty handling anesthesia, elevated liver enzymes (basic bloodwork), to mention a few. Some dogs exhibit strange behavior or may seizure after eating a meal.

Tinkerbell may have MVD, this will be determined when the biopsy results come in.

She does have multiple extrahepatic shunts, they only fix dogs that have one extrahepatic shunt (usually). This is not good news. This means that what we have been doing is the only thing that can be done for her. This is a death sentence.

Oh, no. Oh, no. I am so sorry. Oh, what horrible news. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for this awful news and I pray that she will not suffer. This is the worst news. I am so sorry for Tinkerbell. Poor little girl. I know you are just numb.

I am so sorry. I was under the impression that you meant MVD - I didn't realize that you meant something different. I have learned a lot about shunts and MVD and how to manage them in the last 2 years, but I know nothing about what you are talking about since we have not encountered it. Hopefully it will be able to be managed medically and with diet and the outcome will be positive. I will continue to pray and send positive thoughts your way.

Kathy, I don't know a whole lot about MVD but my heart goes out to you. I pray that Tinkerbell can overcome whatever she may be diagnosed with. You have helped me countless times with my dogs' health and I am so very hopeful that you and Tinkerbell can get through this together.

Oh my God! For once I am at a loss for words because my heart is in my throat. Please forgive me of my ignorance to this situation, I just wish I could do something for you.

I thought this was a learning forum...where I could come and be so educated. I have been educated on heartbreaks for sure. What I want to learn is how to make you and Tink feel better. If I only had the power to, I would. You and Tink have a piece of my .

When I first joined this forum your post was one of the first I read. I have always looked up to your advice. You have given so much of yourself here...I just want to know what can I give you back?

Even for the fact that I do not know you I want to tell you that I love you and Tink. I do not care how big or small your needs are... please, just ask. I am here, right along with the other members.

I am so sorry. I thought she had MVD not multiple shunts. I also didn't know they couldn't repair multiple shunts. I will keep her in my prayers.
