| Please Help! Thank you for any help before I start. I am really nervous. Last night I think that my 6mo old yorkie Mojo got into my xopenex. Xopenex is like albuterol it is a asthma medicine. I have the kind that goes in a nebulizer so it is liquid. I noticed that the box was torn open and that one of the tubes was empty and the other was 1/4 full. He threw up three times last night and once this morning. He has also started being really lethargic. He slept alot and was not his normal self. This morning I took him to the vet and they had me call poison control, which i tried to call last night, they said that he may not have gotten into all of it. They said that at first puppies get really excited with it then they crash. She said that they get really lethargic almost depressed like. They said it would work itself out of his system. The vet never really did anything just said to watch him. He is still drinking which is good he doesnt really have an appetite which they told me was normal. I am just really worried. Has anyone had any experience with this? How long should I let him not eat? I am just sick with worry that he got into that stuff. I dont even know how he found it, i am normally right there with him at all times. Any help or suggestions is really appreciated. Hamida |

| Honestly, this is something that should have been addressed immediately....not the next day! By this time the medication is already throughout his little system. If the vet said he will be ok, I am sure he will. I strongly suggest that the next time something like this happens (hopefully it will not) that you go to an emergency clinic right away. Did the vet say not to feed him? I would think it would be ok for him to eat...you certainly don't want him to end up hypoglycemic. BUT, if the vet said not to feed him, then you should call back and ask him for how long! The vet said to watch him. You need to make sure he is not confused...not weak and stumbling around. Make sure his gums are pink and wet to touch. If they are dry and sticky, he needs to be seen by a vet right away. Welcome to YT!

| In the future, please call the ASPCA poison control hotline. It is staffed 24/7 by toxicologists. They give you a case # and can interface w/ the Emergency Clinic so the poisoning is treated appropriately and timely. I can't give you much advice on the eating but I would say if he continues to have no appetite, you need to take him back so he can at least be given fluids and possibly admitted for supportive and/or medical care. I hope he improves soon, and I know you must be worried sick.

My furkids Donating Member | First I hope your little one is ok...secondly I would have brought him to the vets IMMEDIATELY!! these little ones can go down quickly..If he was brought to the vet when you first noticed he had gotten into your meds they could have induced vomiting then given charcol to absorb what ever he didn't get out. Hopefully this won't happen again but, if it does I wouldn't wait to see what happens...could turn out bad for both of you.

| If your dog makes it consider yourself lucky because he should have been taken to the vet when you found he got into the meds.

| I hope your puppy is okay. I just wanted to post to back up the others and say that you REALLY need to take a puppy (or, for that matter, a full-grown yorkie) to the vet immediately. Things happen SO quickly. I had to take my puppy to the emergency vet several times and each time was told that if I hadn't, she would probably not have made it. Also, I hope you will please keep an eye on her. It's concerning that she was able to access the Xopinex, get it open and ingest it (Isn't it in a box, then a foil wrapper, then a plastic tube?) without you noticing. It helps me to have a cat bell on Zoe, so that I know where she is. On top of that, I just don't really find that I let her out of my sight much. Maybe "baby proofing" your house, just as you would for a human baby is also a good idea. I think that might help you with your own peace of mind as well as ensure her safety as much as possible. I hope you enjoy a long and healthy future together.

| What's the number for pet poison control? Is there more than one organization that hosts a poison pet control? Are any free? Do any charge? How much? |

| I'm glad he's going to be okay. It must have been very scary for you. Was it late at night when this happened? I think if the Vet and the Poision Control said he'll be ok then I'm sure he will be. For sure find out if you can feed him, which I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to. Then probably make some chicken and give that to him so he actually eats. A good thing for our dogs to know is "leave it" so if you ever drop anything that he's not suppose to have, just say leave it and he won't touch it. Good luck with your baby I'm glad he's alright. Always remember to put poisonous things up high so he can't get to it.

| It sounds as though your little guy is on his way to being okay. I am sure that it was/is very scary. You've gotten some great advice. Glad he seems to be better.
