I will say a prayer and lit a candle for you and Sophie. This is so stressful and it must be so hard on you. Make sure you eat and get some rest. When our babies are sick we are sick.

I'm so sorry that you are going thru such a difficult time. I think you will feel better when your regular vet returns and you speak with him. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way.

Sounds more like pancreatitis? Maybe she got a few more potato chips than her system could handle.

I just received a call, Sophie finally had a night without vomiting and is able to come home today. The Liver bile acid tests will be back later today. I have been doing extensive research on liver shunt along with hypothyroidism which is another possible problem. Is there anyone out there who can give me info and guidance as to breeders responsibility if Sophie should have congenital Liver Shunt? I've been told if we need to get her surgery, it will mean traveling to another province and an exorbitant amount of money for the procedure or possible two procedures, along with travel and hotel expenses. I am so grateful to have found Yorkie talk....not only have I found a great group of fellow yorkie lovers, but also a number of very knowledgeable members. I will keep you updated....please pray for Sophie.....

So happy to hear your little girl is doing better. As far as a breeder's responsibilty I am not sure. I know when I got Bella I had a signed agreement, that if anything like that showed up in the first year, she was guaranteed. Now what that means is what. You give back your 1 year old dog that you are in love with to get a new one. I don't think so. I don't think they will help financially in any surgeries. I am also from New Brunswick, where did you get her. The vetinary hopital in PEI is excellent. You can call there or get your vet to fax her testing results and see what they have to say. My son's goldendoodle had a problem with one of his legs and their vet had quoted them a price to have the surgery done and when they contacted the hospital in PEI directly it was cheaper than their vet had said. Liver shunt can be managed, so don't worry.

snobird I am in saint john New Brunswick......like you say, there would be NO way I would ever give my baby back.....and I will some how, find whatever funds it will take to get her the care she needs. I did wonder however, that the breeder should maybe know...as in all the research I've read, they state, that the sire and dam should be spayed and neutered....however that I wonder about, as it is hard to trace where the liver shunt came from in the lines. I could be wrong about this however. Sophie was sick from the day I picked her up at the airport...she is from Ajax Ontario... I was so concerned about her size, weight, and her general malaise., I consulted the vet the next day and had a full exam done..... Sophie sleeps alot as usual .....and last night she went to sleep while I rubbed her belly, (her favourite)....as she layed on her back... where are you located Snobird? I love seeing all the pics of your babies...I need to get one uploaded soon.... thank you again for all the well wishes....it sure is an encouragement at this time... We are having a terrible snow storm, looks like I wont' get to see my folks today ![]() ![]() sending our love to you all.. Sophie's Mommy Abbie

Hello wonderful people.... The vet called earlier to tell me that Sophie does not have Liver Shunt !!! As you can imagine I am relieved and elated . ...however she does have pancreatitis , (not food related).... and is going on a low fat, high nutrition food, as we don't want her to lose any weight. I have much more to discuss with the vet, however I was busy admitting parents to the "Hospice Home" when the vet called. As soon as Sophie is back to herself...I am going to take her to see Nanny ..that is a sure way of putting a big smile on Moms face. I haven't slept but four hours in the last 48...tonight Sophie and I are tucking in early ![]() If I ever win the lotto, I am going to fill my home with Yorkies !!!! lolLove to you all....and you're babies.... Abbie

| Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm so glad your Sophie doesn't have a liver shunt. I hope you can get a handle on the pancreatitis quickly and she can go back to being a happy little dog. I feel the same way -- when I win the lotto I'm going to have a full-time veterinarian and a home for wayward dogs. |
