I am glad to hear Sophie is doing better. I am sure she will put a smile on your mom's face. Yorkies are like little furry sunbeams. I am sorry you are having to deal with hospice for your parents. My heart goes out to you. Best wishes and I hope you get to fill your home with Yorkies regardless!

My dog Lexie has a liver shunt and is being treated with medicine and a special food made by Science Diet. She is doing wonderful. She was diagnosed just before she was two years old and I was also very upset. However, I have learned that you give them the best you can including much love. You never know your dog may just be the miracle and live a good long life.

I'm really glad you found us! And, that you have a diagnosis.

I added "Pancreatitis help needed" to your thread title, and will move it to the Sick/ER section so those who are familiar w/ pancreatitis can share info with you.

Please keep us posted, and hugs to your little girl!

HI, I have gone through what you are going through, I am so sorry,
I have a little maltese, I did three bile acid testes on her, I did 2 ulta sounds looking at possible liber shunts, I just did a surgery on her, poor little thing for liver biopsy, they were only able to get two liver biopsy, she
small, they used staples so that she would not be under so long, she has 14 staples, I just did the surgery last week, so if you need anything or if I can help ease your worry in any way at all please contact me, I will give you my email or phone #, I took her to 3 diffrent vets & also the veternary specialist office, I hope that your little one will be ok, my name is Debbie & my email is birdymom@@gci.net, I live in Alaska.

I went on line & I found some really great info, I talked to special vet in Tennesse & also california, so if I can help you in any way, I know what you are feeling all worried about your baby, I just got a little yorkie a few
months ago & I found this site,

I hope so much that all will be ok.... i can give you my phone number if you need it ... GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Unlove

Wishing you all the best with Sophie. My Yorkie was diagnosed with Pancreatitis yesterday. She just started feeling sick on Jan. 9, saw her local vet on the 10th. She did nothing. We took her out of state to my friend's vet and he called me at 8p.m. last night. We are waiting for more test results such as hypothyroid, etc.
She is on medication for constipation, no vomiting, and Royal Canin RS. She wasn't eating. She was on low protien and fat dog food so cause isn't known as yet. I lost my previous Yorkie after two years of treatment for Pancreatitis. I can't go through this again. We will do all we can for Iris. However, I lost my Mi-Ki on Nov. 21 to H. Pylori. His vet bills at Red Bank Animal Hospital (NJ) exceeded $6,000. They never wiped out this bacteria infection. I will never use them again. They have changed over the last 3 years. I am devastated. No more dogs after this one.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you at a time with so much stress and sadness.

I just came home from "Bobby's Hope" our new
Hospice Home, where my folks are now living.
When I logged on to YT and read all the posts from you
people.....what a wonderful feeling you all have given me.
I sure needed that after the day I had.

Sophie is doing better, however she sleeps sooooo much
and the vet tells me "that is just her personality".
I have been concerned about this from day one.
I have been cooking her food and waiting for the vet to email me specific ingredients / diet for her.
I also have been researching every spare minute I have,
which isn't much with my current situation.

I can't imagine or believe that a 2 year old Yorkie
sleeps so much and that is JUST her personality.

When I get more time, I will reply to all who have
reached out to me here...Isn't it amazing how people
who have never met, can actually provide such
comfort to others in their time of need

I am so moved...

Default Diagnosis "Pancreatitis"

Sophie seems to be a little better however,
she has been sleeping sooooooooo much,
since the day I picked her up at the airport.

I have made her food the past few days....some
days she doesn't eat as much as she should, and I
worry about weight loss.

I am researching when I find any spare time at all....
My vet said she'd send me info three days ago...with respect to diet, nutrition, recipes. I wonder if there is a supplement I can give her in her food ...or if that is even an option......If only my parents weren't terminal, I'd pack up Sophie and head out of province...
*sigh

Someone on YT mentioned a dog nutritionist...
which is something I can't imagine finding here in the
city....I am still looking .

I will do whatever it takes....

*hugs YT people

Animal Smiley 036 Get to a university that has a vet hospital. Many vets guess at stuff like this.

directly to the Vet.
The vet on call, who is not the vet I use....informed me
she was dehydrated and did a series of blood work on her.
She called later and spoke to me about finding a significant
amount of "fat" in her blood..along with elevated liver
enzymes. Yesterday and last night, I was at hospital,
with two terminal parents, however my husband
said she was perfectly normal acting and eating and drinking. The first sign of trouble was this morning.
The vet informed me that liver shot was very
common in Yorkies ....I have never heard this before.
Sophie remains in hospital on I.V ...tomorrow the vet
will determine if she needs more extensive liver testing.
I am feeling a little uncomfortable with this vets,
findings, and would feel so much better if my regular
vet was here for consultation...He will return on Wednesday.......
When I asked this vet if this could be a "fatal
problem" she replied " I wish I could say no".
I haven't stopped crying all day....If anyone has anything
to offer in way of help, guidance, etc, I would much appreciate .
I find it very baffling, how she was given such a
wonderful bill of health her last vet visit, a few months ago.

Losing two parents has been and will be a major loss in my life, to loose my best friend too, will be too much
to bare.

Thanks for listening.....
Find a university with a vet hospital and you will find they are much more accurate with the diagnosis and healing process. They are ultimately less expensive. Don't wait, do it now. My prayers and support is with you and I hope you find a solution soon. Take care.

I have 2 very sick yorkies and went to 4 vets and spent a fortune. Finally I found a vet connected to the university pet hospital and they took a team approach and wow what a difference. They have seen it all and are very quick to diagnois and treat. I am so sorry for all you have been through. It is so difficult to go through so much pain with furbabies. I know I have felt like giving up many times but finally I have some real hope and at least some techniques that are working. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
