does anyone here know what some of the injection site issues can be? All three of my pups had their 2nd round of shots last week and all three have a "fleshy tumor" feel near their lower shoulder/getting close to their armpit. They didn't have it prior to the shots. One of the pup's lump was very noticeable (by feel) so I checked the others and they have it also though smaller --- all on the same side, same spot on their body. I pushed on it, doesn't faze them, thus no pain. Their vet won't be open til Monday - concerns? I called the er vet and they said it's probably an injection site problem and not to worry & call the vet who gave them the shots and ask where they gave them the shots. In the mean time I thought I'd ask here as I'm sure someone here has had the same issue come up.

it should go down in a few days, its were they had their shots, nothing to worry about.

Thank you very much for responding. I truly appreciate you taking the time to relieve some of my worries, though deep down I thought it all too coincidental too freak out too badly right now --- all three, same spot, same side, ---'shots' but it does make me feel better to hear what you said. I just never had an animal have a reaction to a vaccine before.

When I went in there for the shots, I specially ask not for the lepto from everything I read here on YT and they insisted it was fine because "that was old school" --- who knows.

It does sound like it came from the shots. I give my own shots, though, and never have a problem with this. I tent the skin up right between the shoulders. Maybe it's the site your vet chose or just not being careful. How many days has it been since the shots?

I don't know where you live but some places vet will suggest it cause Leptospirosis is really bad in the area. I had one pup that when she first got her shot in the back area, wouldn't walk and cried for a day, so the next puppy shot I asked then not to give it to her there and she was fine. I freaked out with my first one Lexie when she had the shots too, she had the knot for a couple of weeks.

Do you mean they told you it was "old school" to not get it, or, to get it?

In most cases, lepto isn't recommended unless endemic to your geography. Hopefully, if you told them you didn't want it, they respected your choice.

If they didn't, I'd be looking for a new vet.

I hope those lumps go down. The way you're describing them does sound like they could be from the shots. You could try putting some topical benadryl on the area, or cortisone cream

Max got those lumps on 2 occasions. They felt like little movable marbles underneath his skin and went away in about 10 days. It scared me to death until I questioned my vet and second guessed on YT.

You can put a warm cloth on the area and it will help for the site reaction to go down.

I believe it was hard, its been years since that happen, so really can't tell you for sure, but I am sure its from that, I do remember my vet telling me to rub it and you can put a warm compress on it, but it didn't bother her and it did go away, just watch them and make sure they go away in a couple of weeks, if not call your vet.

To the OP:
My two had their first yearly shots in Nov. The next day Muffin's arm was sore to the touch. I took her into the emergency vet since it was Sunday. They said it was normal and that it would subside. They gave her pain meds and that helped.

As for the Lepto:
My breeder said not to give it either. I told my vet and they said that they didn't use it and not many other vets used it either.

I wouldn't say mine feel like marbles, more like a soft, fleshy, tumor. a squishy marble if you will ;-) I know the vet thoroughly felt the pups everywhere and there was no mention of it, I certainly didn't notice them before (like I said the one pup's is very noticable, one feeling could not miss it.) It definitely doesn't hurt or bother them. I'll call the vet on Monday and ask them. I will let everyone know what the vet said. Again, it's all too coincidental all three pups, all three right sides, all three soft, movable lumps, etc to be anything else but the shots, but one never knows.

No I really don't think the vet respected what I had to say re: the lepto, but they had an answer...their old school reference was meaning that because the shot was made different years ago a lot of old breeders hang on that line of thinking there could be a problem because there were problems with it before. the vet said it wouldn't matter what shots were given in what combination as no one could guarantee there wouldn't be a possible problem crop up. It's not their regular vet.
They got: distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, & parainfluenza during this round and their first set of shots the same plus the coronavirus.

I'm getting back to everyone here: Talked to the vet and yes an injection site "reaction", as is "allergic" - told from here on out to give the different shots in different areas so will know which vaccine the reaction/allergy was.

Spent last night in the vet ER, the little runt girl has a "soft tissue injury" (which equals "they don't know!!) - on her foot, had x-rays to see what was going on. Apparently, her joints, knees, et al., are all good, nor is anything broken. slightly swollen on top. Can squeeze it, no reaction. Vet says she "one tough little pup"

I wasn't home at the time. Hubby and son came in the door, let the pups out of the x-pen (to which they all come charging out, jumping and happy) and within a couple minutes she started yelping and holding her foot up.They didn't see anything/backs were turned. Either she got hurt within those couple minutes (fell trying to jump on couch???) or maybe her big brothers played too hard and chewed on/bit her foot earlier and she bumped it once out of the pen??? Vet gave her pain med and steroids - still hurting today, poor baby, babying her foot - keeping her isolated from the other dogs/per vet recommendation. She doesn't understand why she can't play with them. She has a follow up Friday morn --- If it isn't one thing it's another!!!

Any opinions? I just happened to think tonight...what if she has an infection between her foot pads??? A suppose she could have picked up a sliver or some sort??? Wouldn't the vet have noticed that? I will examine her foot better in the daylight tomorrow. If anyone's heard of something similar let me know. Thanks. And thanks or all the shot theories. I appreciate it very much.
