Yorkie Talker | My 7 Month old Yorkie had a heart attack while being neutered Hi, I am new to this forum. My name is Robin and I live in Lansdale PA. I bought a 6 month old Yorkie a month ago. His name is Max. I took Max to be neutered on Monday. He went into a heart attack on the table from the Anestia. The vet never told me before the procedure to have blood tests done or anything about small dogs especially Yorkies having problems with being put under. Max has been in the hospital since Monday. My heart is broken and I think I will have to put Max down. I'm so upset up this. I'm also now 5 grand in debt with medical bills. Can anyone tell me a way to raise the money for Max's hospital bills? Maybe there is a foundation or grants or charities that help. The most important issue here is that this never happens again to another Yorkie. Any help or information would be appreciated. |

| OMG, I've never heard of such a thing! I hope you don't have to have Max euthanized. Is the vet saying he won't recover? And what has the vet been doing to wrack up $5,000 in expenses? Is he being seen by a specialist? I am so sorry Max is so ill and that you are going through this. There is Care Credit that you might check out for the vet expenses. And I did see where there was a rescue on this forum that tries to help with vet expenses. I don't remember the name of it. Gosh, I feel so bad for Max, I really do. I will be saying prayers for him and hope he can recover.

| If the vet never informed you about pre-surgical blood tests, then the vet might bear some responsibility for this. On the other hand, depending on what caused the heart attack, it may have been something that blood tests couldn't detect. Have you discussed this with them? I can't imagine what they could have had to do to get the bill up to $5,000. What exactly have they done over the course of 4 days that amounted to that? Look into Care Credit, if you are approved you can pay it off over a year or two, interest free.

| I can't even find the words to express how sad I feel for you and your little one. I pray that he will recover and the vet has it in his heart not to charge you for his medical bills. My prays are with both of you. |

Get a lawyer now!. Let him advise you of your rights. For example did you give Fully Informed Consent to this procedure? Did the vet, go over the risks of putting any small breed dog under anaesthisa? Not just merely push in front of you a bunch of forms to sign. Did the vet as is protocol for toy breeds, recommend to you pre op blood work and did you say no? Beyond this, in terms of raising money for help with vet bills, I'm so sorry that I don't know if there is anything available in the US.

| I am so sorry that you and Max are going thru such a terrible time. The vet should be held liable because he/she did not do pre-op blood work. My vet does that for a dental cleaning and anything that requires anesthesia. I'll be praying for you and your pup. |

| I am sooo sorry! My prayers are with you and Max. That is heartbreaking! I would contact a lawyer and see what options you have. I can't believe that they didn't tell you about the blood tests! I would consider that a form of negligence. How terribly sad Big hugs from me to you and Max and kisses from London. I really hope everything works out.

| I'm praying for you and Max. You never think that things like this can happen. Our vet makes sure they always recommend the blood tests(we have a husband and wife team) You always have the option of saying no. Sending you many hugs.

| Most vets do not suggest tests on a puppy of that age...I do not know if a test to test a dogs reaction to anesthesia is used at all...much like humans who die from the same thing...tests check the general condition of the heart, kidney functions, blood clotting rate, general blood test...anesthesia is like a bee sting or pencillin...you do not know you are allergic until you are given it... I am very sorry to hear about your little boy...I would have to do what is best for the dog at this point, lingering between life and death is not a good situation. Best wishes |

Senior Yorkie Talker | I was shocked and saddened to read about what happended to your baby. What is his prognosis? My baby is getting neutered on Thursday. They never mentioned anything about blood tests. Now I'm concerned. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Omg I'm about to get my lewie neutered and he's really sensitive to even getting shots. I'm so scared now. I definitely better ask my vet all the necessary info before I do it. So a blood test is a must? He's a year old now. Im so sorry about ur case my heart goes out to max pls don't put him down, there must be another way. Keep us updated
