| ![]() I am so sorry about your Max. I pray he recovers. Pre-op bloodwork is a must before a dog undergoes anesthesia. My vet requires it on a puppy or any dog who has never had bloodwork before. It can tell your vet about organ function and your pet's ability to handle anesthesia. Since Yorkies are prone to liver disease, it is especially important that they have pre-op bloodwork since anesthesia is processed through the liver. An EKG is also recommended by many vets before surgery to make sure the heart is healthy. Did your vet offer a pre-op work up and you declined? Or it was never even offered to you? Did you go to a low cost spay neuter clinic? They are usually bare bones and don't offer pre-op screening. Do you know what type of anesthesia was used? According to a vet who belongs to another forum, a ketamine/valium combination should not be used in animals with kidney or heart problems during the induction stage. Propofol is preferred. This is a good thread for anyone who will be getting a puppy spayed or neutered to read: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-protocol.html This is pinned in our Health section. Hopefully you can find a resource to help with the vet bills. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...vet-bills.html

| ![]() My Chloe is going in Monday I hope the blood tests do show if they can have an reaction to being put out. I am having the blood test done I know it is important my vet has always stressed this to us. I'm also going to have her baby teeth pulled out. After reading this I'm going to be sick with worry until she's out now. |

| ![]() I had a female yorkie 14 yrs ago die while being spayed. She was 8 months old and died on the table, Millie was her name. She to had a heart attack. Keeping Max in my prayers! And 5,000 does seem a bit much for such a short time! I'd talk with your vet.

| ![]() How heartbreaking for you. I hope that Max is able to pull through his heart attack and make a recovery. That sure is a huge vet bill so I hope you are able to get some type of payment plan. Is he in a specialty hospital where they are monitoring his heart? Is he seeing a cardiologist? I'm so sorry.

| ![]() How sad! I'm so sorry this happened to your baby. I'll keep him in my prayers. Curious to see what they did that cost $5000.00.

| ![]() My heart breaks for you and your fur baby. How very sad, I pray he recovers soon. The picture is just so heart wrenching. I sure hope you can find out why this has been so expensive. Its seem like you have gotten some good advice here. Good luck and I offer my prayers for both of you. Warm hugs, Chelsea'sMom |

| ![]() I am so sorry for you and your little guy. The picture breaks my heart. My vet did blood work before Zoey was spayed. I really don't know why these tests need to be done but I just go along with what the vet says is needed before surgery. I will pray for your little one - so sad - and please keep us informed. Cherie
