| ![]() I'm very sorry. ![]() Blood work should be recommended for all elective surgeries, but some vets don't think it's necessary (unfortunately, puppies do have organ dysfunction, so I could never go with the idea that it isn't needed). It checks organs, electrolytes, and a CBC is done to check for infection, etc. This is no way guarantees a safe anesthetic experience. There is no way to know whether or not they will react; but it does give a good indication of whether or not their bodies can handle it. I'm really not sure why it is $5K either. Even with a cardiac echo, that seems like a lot. Have you transferred him to an emergency hospital/vet school? What anesthesia was used?

| ![]() This is HEARTBREAKING! That picture of Max makes me want to cry for real. (((HUGS))) to you. The vet should cover the costs of all this at this point. Why did the vet who did the neuter not do bloodwork first?? The vet should be responsible for the health and well being of your pup BEFORE ever putting him under like that. ![]() ![]() I pray Max makes a recovery, I soooo pray for that. My heart is with you, my thoughts and prayers too.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | ![]() First of all, I am sorry about Max. I hope he makes a full recovery. I can't imagine how scared you must be right now. But there are several posts here that are really bothering me. There is an automatic assumption that the vet did something wrong and therefore needs to A) be sued or B) pick up the costs of the care. Without knowing the ENTIRE story, none of us should be going down that path. Bad things happen. Even if the care was impeccable, things can still go wrong in an instant that no one had any control over. The OP says the vet never told her about doing pre-op blood work, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done. Even if it was, it's only a PREDICTOR of how well the body will tolerate anesthesia, not a guarantee. Not every test under the sun is done as part of that pre-op work up. Clotting disorders, embolisms and even a reaction the anesthesia it's self can't be predicted with the routine tests. I understand wanting to place blame, it's a natural reaction. JMO, but right now the focus should be on Max's recovery. Everything else can be dealt with later.

| ![]() the OP wanted to share this sad news with you I had to put Max down on Friday evening. He just couldn't fight anymore. Now is part of my mission for life. Yorkies need extra attention and just can't get neutured like other dogs. Please pass this story on about Max. I want to help all the little ones ahead of him. I had to put his bills on care credit. So now I have to start to file a lawsuit against this vet. I hope you will pass this story on.
