He became very agitated when we went to bed last night. I've never seen him like that. He insisted on getting down off the bed, then as soon as he was down he seemed to panic and want back up. Then back down, up, down, up, over and over and over. I couldn't calm him no matter how I tried. Finally, I threw some cushions on the floor in the living and laid down with my hand rubbing his back and he eventually got quiet.

I don't know if the doctor will be able to help Alex or not, but I have to try. I can't let Alex go on the way he is just because I'm not ready to say goodbye, but I can't just give up on him either. Whatever happens with the doctor &/or new meds, my main prayer is that I have the strength to decide what's in Alex's best interests, not mine. Since I'm a pretty selfish person that's not always easy for me to do.

| I am so sorry to hear this. It is really gut wrenching when this happens. I goess dogs are like us. Some start suffering from it, and some don't. What about a Neurologist? I know there are Arthritis and Pain meds, but not sure what they have for doggie dementia. Max is 13, and we take every day with her one day at a time, and I know how fast illness can come on. On day they are fine, the next day they are not. You have my thoughts so hang in there. Sounds like you are doing all you can. |

| Bonny, I am so very sorry to hear about Alexander's confusion. It is such a sad time in your friend's life. We are dealing with many of the same issues that others have listed in their replies with our elderly 14 1/2 year old Boo the Boxer. Dr. Amy doesn't have a lot of confidence in the meds that are currently available for Doggie Dementia so we haven't pursued those meds. Boo is also having many other health issues which complicate things even more -- so what we have decided to treat each day that she is with us as a blessing. She is on two heart meds twice daily, and Rimadyl for pain. Recent blood work indicates that she is having thyroid issues so she will be starting a med for that as well. Sending and and to Alexander and to you. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | My heart just aches for all of you. My Bungee didn't have this problem -- but she did start having accidents in the house and she was clearly ashamed when it happened. It's so heartbreaking to see a beloved family member slipping away like this. I hope your vet is able to help him. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh Bonny . I can only imagine what you're going through, emotionally, watching your baby go through this. I hope the vet has some suggestions to ease his anxiety. You are such a great Mama, and I know you'll get him through this. I will keep Alexander and you in my thoughts.

Luv my 7 Furkids Donating Member | Aww Bonnie Im sorry. Before my yorkies I went thru that with my springers. One lived for 18 yrs the other 17 yrs. No matter how long we have them its never long enough. When I got my first yorkie, I told myself no matter how much it hurt when we loose our best friend, it doesnt compare to the love they give us while here. I'll be saying prayers for you. Hugs.
