				   | Thank you for the E/R info. I have pet insurance. I've kept credit cards with zero balances but with the 'new economy' if you don't use them (and I mistakenly did not) they whittle down the limits, start charging annuals, or close the accounts. It's crazy the penalties for trying to keep open lines available with no balances. Even tried keeping tiny balances and they just lowered the limits to what my balances were. So now I have just three major cards a big balances/limits on them. Nuts I tell ya. Going to keep cash in ice cream containers in the freezer marked..DOGS! I'll shut up about financial issues now so I haven't completely hijacked the thread. Hopefully, she'll come back and let us know what is going on.

IMO, setting up a special account with automatic deductions every month is the best way to plan for unexpected vet bills. I have also heard the recommendation that you open that account with the equivalent of the purchase price of your dog the day you bring him home and add to it monthly. | |

				   | I would really like to thank all of you for the support, prayers and warm wishes. I’m really sorry for the delay in an update but I haven’t been getting much regular sleep with all that’s happened. I took Lefty to the emergency vet but they required money up front before even looking at him so after calling a friend and asking for a loan I was able to get him looked at. Last night, he stopped drinking cold water voluntarily for about 4 hours and just looked awful so I used a dropper and gave him 5ml of 50/50 Pediayte/Enfamil. He had a 30 second seizure a minute or two later. That’s when I went into panic mode. Turns out (IMHO) that the trauma of forcing the liquid down his throat probably caused his seizure but it probably saved his life because his electrolytes were very low. We took him to El Camino Veterinary Hospital (and will never go there again). After spending nearly $400.00 for a check in and blood panel, they were clueless and all they could come up with is “we need more money up front”. We took our baby home, expecting him to die last night because we didn’t have the money for an IV or housing or more tests. All we could do is get up every hour and give him another dropper of pedialyte. Long story short: he started drinking water again on his own this morning, eventually wobbled out back to pee and after sleeping all day, with us occasionally rubbing his lips with Karo syrup and offering him fresh cold water every 30 min, he started to perk up on his own and has begun eating teaspoons of liquefied boiled chicken and grits. I’m feeling really good about his condition right now. He’s starting to look more alert and, most importantly, he’s nibbling (very, very finicky) and drinking more vigorously. I’m too afraid to say that he’s totally out of the woods but he looks much better than he did 24 hours ago. |

| Donating YT 30K Club Member | I took out Care Credit when Dixie was diagnosed with congenital kidney failure and ran up a lot of bills fast and hen passed away. That was 2 years ago, then in November I pulled it out to pay for Nikki's dental as his owner couldn't. Now when Pixie had her LP surgery I used it again with no problems. So maybe using it at least every 12-18 months keeps it activated. Just a reminder, on Care Credit if you don't pay off the full amount in the allotted time you then get billed for the deferred interest. In Pixie's case, I charged 2350.00 of her bill and if I don't pay it off in 12 months I will owe almost 400 in interest.
