| Help please...so worried. I had this all typed up and it disappeared when I tried to post..Forgive me if this is a duplicate. My Yorkie, Mickey, is 1 year, 3 mos. old. He has been a very healthy, happy dog, up until this past Tuesday. He truly has never been sick in the year that we've had him. He never has thrown up or had diarrhea. He is the 6th Yorkie I've owned in my life time, and he is by far the healthiest. Anyway, on Tuesday, he was acting a little different. He still went on a walk, ate, etc, but seemed more tired than usual. At 11 pm, he started vomiting, and threw up about 5-6 times in an hour. He threw up his food and a white substance... I suspect now that he got into pancakes, which were left on the coffee table...He never eats people food. Through the night on Tuesday and on Wednesday and Thursday, he vomited yellow bile. Not much, just occasionally. He didn't seem sick though. He continued to eat his food, play, and his BMs were completely normal. When he was still vomiting through the night on Thursday, I called the vet. we went in on Friday morning. Just before I left for the appt. he had his first bout of watery diarrhea. I took a sample to the vet. They found nothing wrong. She did x-rays, which were completely normal. She showed them to me and went into a lengthy explanation of them, showing me that there was no blockage, everything looked normal, etc. She also checked the sample, took his temperature, looked at his eyes, throat, etc. She pushed on his tummy and said that he had no sign of pancreatitis...that his stomach would be sensitive to the touch. She gave me an antibiotic and an antacid for him. Her thoughts were that he got into the pancakes and they made him sick...and now he has a lot of stomach acid. He threw up a little yesterday and continued to have the diarrhea, which could have had a little blood in it. Last night, he slept all night and didn't have any vomiting and diarrhea--and I thought he was getting better, but he's not. Today he has been very lethargic. He has drank a good bit of water twice, and ate about a tablespoon of boiled rice. He has had diarrhea twice this afternoon and has vomited twice, with a little rice in it. Does this sound like a common Yorkie ailment? What should my next step be? My husband and I will take him to the Emergency Vet clinic tomorrow if this hasn't gotten better. Any advice for right now? We are so upset.... |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | If he's lethargic, I wouldn't wait until tomorrow to go to the emergency vet. It doesn't take much for these little guys to get dehydrated and have their electrolytes get thrown off balance. It sounds like he might need some IV/Subcutaneous fluids and meds.

| So sorry your baby is sick. I have a sick boy now also. He hasn't been well for a while now and we have done so many test trying to find out what is wrong. It is so stressful on us trying to figure out the problem. My vets kept saying each test was normal but I knew something wasn't right. Hopefully your baby will feel better soon. My prayers are with you. |

| I agree that I would go to the emergency clinic if there are no signs of improvement. Poor little guy. |

| Addison's Disease Hi.....I was reading your thread and it brought back memories for me with my maltese I had. He had very similar symptoms. At the time, when we couldn't figure out what was wrong with him...it was because he had Addisons disease as well as pancreatitis. I know your vet checked for pancreatitis. My vet said that Addisons Disease presents itself in ways that are hard to detect sometimes. At least bring it up with emergency vet. It's worth a try. | My boy gets (used to) get like that a lot [QUOTE=mickeysmum;3185283]I had this all typed up and it disappeared when I tried to post..Forgive me if this is a duplicate. I suspect now that he got into pancakes, which were left on the coffee table...He never eats people food..... and the vet thought he had acid reflex and put him on Famotidine (after all kinds of tests). I hate giving my babies drugs, unless absolutely necessary, so I asked and asked everywhere for another solution. I've been giving him 'Cocotherapy Oil' and would you believe it? We haven't been to the vet since April, about the time I started him on this oil. Mind you, we used to be at the vet at the very least once a month because of Nicky's throwing up all the time! He and my girl aren't too crazy about the oil so I forget to give it to them once in a while and I've noticed that Nicky starts throwing up again (Weird). I have to pay attention to this since I'm just now connecting the dots as I read your post. I'll ask in a new thread to see if anyone has had the same thing happen with this oil. I hope your baby gets better faster than quickly

| Small Update Mickey continued not to eat or drink into this evening. My husband took him to the Emergency Vet, and they are doing tests right now. They said he is definitely dehydrated. They are concerned about a "liver shunt", but the tests will tell, I guess. They may admit him tonight. Poor little thing. I hope he's okay. I'll let you all know what happens. Thanks so much for all the words of advice. It's much appreciated. |

| praying for your little guy. I am sure they will get to the bottom of it, and he probably is dehydrated from all the vomiting. He is small and it doesn't take much for them to get dehydrated. When Daisy has her throwing up episodes I always offer her crushed ice and I buy organic chicken broth (low sodium) and mix it with warm water like 2 parts water to 1 part broth and offer it to her every 2-3 hrs. Just to avoid dehydration it usually works.

| Another Update Well, Mickey was admitted to the Emergency Vet Hospital last night. They don't know what's wrong with him, but are running tests. They are waiting on the results of the bile test to see if it's his liver. They are also doing tests on his kidneys. The doctor called this morning and said that he had a good night, and has only "gagged" once, but didn't vomit or have diarrhea. Some level in his blood is really low, and they are thinking that he has something I've never heard of. Lymphangiectasia?? Does anyone know anything about this? We're on our way out to visit Mickey at the hospital. Thanks again for your kind words and advice. I appreciate it all so much. |
