| ![]() so i relooked at his chart just to be sure and sure enough it WAS the fecal sample that they diagnosed from. i don't know how, but we did not do a skin scrape on him to find out that it's what it was. he got a fecal with parasites and giardia sent to Antech diagnostics and it came back positive for demodex????? i know it sounds like it's not true, but i swear that's what happened. the only thing would be if they somehow did a skin scrape when i wasn't looking ![]() |

whether you can make the determination that the dog has mange because its found in the stool is debatable. Personally, i would want a skin scraping done on the spots with thinning hair or lesions if there are any. Does Bentley have any such spots?

| ![]() so i did ask the vet about the fecal thing again. she said that only like 2-3 cases have ever shown up demodex in a fecal. it's because when he bites at the itching wounds he injested some of the mites into his body which come out in his stool. that's the only possible way other than a skin scrape, they have starting treating him based on the fecal but we do promeris once every two weeks for three rounds and then wait 4 weeks and do a scrape to see how it's going with treatment. wish us luck. his lesions on his back i found are healing up quite nicely and almost gone. HOPE HOPE HOPE it's cureable for him. and about the poop. i've seen lots of very strange poop and urine samples in several strange containers already...weird people out there. a pick up bag is fine, or possibly use the cup we sent home for you to scoop it into...i've had one come in these little white boxes that didn't interlock but rather sat on top of each other and if you set them down the top one would slide right off and there's a pile of poo....oh dear these people. yeah i keep sterile urine bottles and sterile syringe to pick up urine and fecal bottles at home as pick up from vet to have just in case anything happens i have them there to take in vet that morning. I like using sterile things from vets office not TUPPERWARE lollll what up with that. You can also get sterile bottles from pharmacy for free as well. Our vet has the bottles up at front desk to take home Last edited by dwerten; 05-28-2010 at 07:31 PM. | |

| ![]() Demodex eggs can be seen in fecals. Whether a diagnosis of demo overload is made on it is up to the vet. I'm guessing most would take the wait and see approach unless symptoms became apparent. A skin scraping could always be done to confirm, but since demo are normal in dog (to a certain extent), some vets aren't going to treat unless symptoms appear.
