They get them from ingesting fleas.

i dunno, i looked them up online and none of the worms really looked like the ones i saw. im guessing whip or round..but i dont care as long as it GOES AWAY! he didnt have any fleas when i got him, but god knows before that..I dont know what the vet gave me cuz it wasnt in original pkg it was just half a pill they said will cure it all up..what should i expect? If the worms get cleared up how do i know it worked?

Ok...you made me laugh. I SO understand. Those things are creepy.

If the tablet is large and round (I realize you only have 1/2...but a large 1/2

), my guess is that it is what I said and it will get rid of them. You could always send a fecal out in a couple of weeks to be sure.

thank god lol i guess it was a pretty big half. I CANT WAIT for this to be over..on the plus he did seem xtra playful today so maybe he is startin to feel better already

He pooped in the cage while i was at work and i didnt see anything in it, but i CLEANED him and the cage like no other..with gloves haha i am so paranoid

I gave timmy the dewormer pill the vet gave me on tues morning with his breakfast. The vet didnt see any worms or eggs when he examined his stool, but the day before i took him i saw a living worm, possibly two in it. he gave me the wormer anyway, but now i am curious...how do i know its working?? I havent seen any worms since that ONE day..so i dont know whats going on...if he had worms wouldnt the medicine be killing them and he be pooping out dead worms?? I see NOTHING in his poo at all anymore (thou i dont inspect it really, its not soft and easy to squish..and gross anyway lol) I dont know if he's feeling better cuz he acts the same as usual. I havent tempted fate with the puking b/c i wanna make sure the worms are gone before i try to feed him his meal all at once and test out his dig system. if it was the worms causing the throw up (no worms were ever in it) then that would be great but i just dont know how much longer i have to wait before KNOWING that he has no worms anymore???

I am honestly not sure how long it works. I do know that they usually recommend a second treatment two weeks after the first. It has to do with the stages of development of the worms.

ya i asked that and the vet said i wouldnt need a followup treatment...but im gonna ask again. i still havent seen any worms so maybe he had a very small case considering i already dewormed him a few weeks ago...i did however try out the puking thing...i thought maybe it was caused by worms so i tried to feed him half his meal all at once this morning and he still threw up. So ill go ahead and get the barium study done tomorrow anyway. Most of the things i found online say dewormers usually kick in about 24 hours after ingestion and about a day or so later they shed dead worms but again..ive seen nothing since that ONE day..and his poo seems normal now. i took a picture of the vomit, and i put a tuff of his lost hair in a baggie so i can show the vet both of those in case that helps..and of course i have the log of his feeding for the last few weeks

wish us luck tomorrow! hope its nothing serious!

You probably will not need to do a follow up treatment if you are not seeing anything. I am sure your vet is right about that.

BTW does anyone happen to know how to clean cotton squeaky toys? i have a ton of them and timmy has gotten a lot of them dirty with his nasty mouth...plus with the worm scare i would feel better if i could wash them somehow to protect him from catching them again somehow.. I have washed a couple in the washing machine before and they seem okay after i squeak the water out of the squeaker..but i dont wanna ruin all of their toys if theres a better way...any suggestions?

i wash mine in the washer and throw in dryer

I wash our plush squeaky toys in the washer on gentle cycle and then dry on normal setting in the drier. I've had to repair a few holes over the years, but it gets the toys all nice and clean.

ill do that cuz they def need cleaned lol they are the last thing that hasnt been washed i believe since he took his wormer pill tues. i've washed every blanket, bed, and everything i believe...lol

Timmy is officially at the vet! He will have the barium done first..then be given anesthesia for the teeth cleaning..if they find some blockage during barium they will take it out while hes asleep. thats actually what im HOPING for! I did everything i could. I took in a sample of the tuffs of fur hes dropping, 3 pictures of his vomit, a log of every time i have fed him for the past couple weeks with everything i have seen happen during his eating, and a stool sample from this morning. Also they weighed him for me and he has lost .3 lbs since i got him last month

not that uncommon since he has problems eating i guess, but other than yesterday he has kept all of his food down for like a week or 2..anyway i am going to try not to think/worry about him while he's there until they give me a call....
