| PLEASE HELP- Unusual urine smell here goes, for the past two days Jack's pee has a foul odor to do. Yes I know urine doesn't smell like roses, but this is a new smell, almost oniony? Also while scratching his belly I noticed a small lump inside his penis. He does go to the bathroom frequently but I do leave him out water for his leisure. I am very worried, have a vet appointment in 2 weeks, wondering if I should have him seen sooner or if his mommy is just being a worry wart.

| I would take in a urine sample and have them do a urinalysis if this was mine as they will test if crystals and ph to see if anything is going on and due to lump you found i would get him in sooner as well - if no lump i would just take in urine |

| the best urine sample is to get first thing in am after it has been sitting in bladder all night so flip a wee wee pad over get a sterile syringe and sterile bottle from vet and then capture the urine first pee of the day and take in to vet - if you cannot get in right after sample as too early in am then put the sample in fridge to preserve it |

| Can you get him into the vet sooner than two weeks? It might be something that needs treatment. Keep us posted. |

| I agree with dwerten and dunny. I would also suggest calling your vet and taking in a urine sample. Please keep us updated on Jack - I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers. |

| Thank you, I actually just noticed the lump is gone? Ive never had a male dog before, my baby is only 3 months old. I feed him wellness puppy dry food mixed with science diet small bites for puppies (he was on it before the wellness). I also give him wellness sweet pot. and lamb wet food. Little sticker only likes the lamb!

If he's only 3 months old, he probably will need to go pee frequently for a while yet. He's still just a baby. If the urine odor was a sudden change and is that noticeable, I really think you should ask your vet about it. It may be as simple as a change in his diet. But don't let online strangers try to play doctor and diagnose a pup they've never seen and whose medical histories they know nothing about. Only you and your vet really know your pup, and this is the best way for your pup to get the proper diagnosis and care he needs for any condition that may develop.

| I think it is great that you are trying to educate yourself and seeking information out when you notice something different in your dog it is important for pet owners to be involved in the care of their pet and to learn things as well and why we have this section here to help each other as some pet owners have learned from experiencing things and can help pass that on to others and why we have this section which is so valuable here. I think it is common sense to all here to seek a vets advice as well and why we all have vets. If you don't have a vet and have a dog that seems pretty ridiculous to me. I think it is insulting to people to just say over and over go to the vet as if pet owners do not know this already and why some people leave yt when being told that when seeking out other pet owners help with their dog here. We all know to consult a vet we are not stupid. But we come here to learn from other dog owners experiences and recommendations. If the urine odor was a sudden change and is that noticeable, I really think you should ask your vet about it. It may be as simple as a change in his diet. | I really appreciate your help Dwerten. I have to agree that all pet owner do know to go to the vet (or at least one should hope!) =) My poor pup has had many hurdles for him already and I appreciate and welcome all opinions of medical and of course non medical issues. Not even a Vet knows everything - as I have come to find out the hard way. I have actually found the best place for information can be from other dog owners. I have grew up around poodles for most my life and owning a Yorkshire Terrier is something I am still learning about. I had his brother pass away this month and I worry very much about him. This is a Yorkie Forum... right? This is a sick/injured emergencies talk? Questions are allowed and different answers as well. I think the part about "online strangers playing vet" was a bit out of line, but you both gave me good information so I thank you for that. I am going to monitor his urine for the next 24 hours and see what happens, if not I am going to call my Vet tomorrow.

| Actually I dont see anything wrong with someone telling the Op to go to the vet. They are the ones that should be diagnosing they are the ones qualified too. I understand some pet owners may have some knowledge of a certain illness or sickness because there pet may have had it and they should share that but no one on here should be diagnosing a problem. | I disagree with you Chachi, the Vet is the obvious answer. Some people like to get other opinions, perhaps people with similar issues and what their Vet said. There is nothing wrong with getting other opinions. Most vets do not know a lot about nutrition. I have been through 3 vets already, trying to find a good one- there have been times when a proper diagnosis was not given and meds were given in hopes to cure whatever it was. When my puppies were coughing and sneezing, two different vets told me it could be a couple different things, we try one treatment and if it didn't work we'd go from there. It just frustrates me when people think vets are gods, I'm dropping it now but I'll say this If anyone has a good vet then they are lucky.
