I think it is wonderful that you are a phone call away but you stated earlier that Melody is 3 1/2 hours from you , that is a 7 hour round trip visit if something would happen to Melody!!

It is my opinion that you are making decisions based on phone calls, I find it odd that none of these DRS have said I NEED OR WANT TO SEE THIS PUPPY BEFORE I CAN MAKE ANY RECOMMENDATION. I have personally seen a puppy weighing less then 3 pds make it out of a sucessful Liver shunt operation... she lives a good live.

If Melody is placed in rescue, those who wish can make a tax deductible donation directly to the rescue to offset her treatment. It's the only safe way to donate money for her care.

If this is all true, I can't see how anybody could allow a sweet little puppy to suffer Not doing the right thing for Melody, which is IMHO , turning her over to a rescue where she can be fully cared for propperly, and NOT taking her to a vet who specializes in LS cases, is being neglectful. Yes, I understand Melody is being treated with medication, but how long is this going to sustain her? It takes a while for the meds to even work, meanwhile , Melody is still suffering and in a great deal of pain and confusion.
My opinion , is that this is cruel and inhumane. To allow a animal to be very ill , and not get do what is in the best interest of Melody. Makes me feel very sad and

I know everyone is upset (I am too)...But, I hope everyone can understand though, that pups that have a Liver Shunt, and who are very, very small and tiny and are still very week, are NOT a good candidate for Liver Shunt surgery. It would be very, very wrong to jump right into LS surgery (IMO) with Melody. IMO she needs to be on the proper medication, and the proper diet (and the proper amount fed to her at least 5-6 times a day), she needs to get the Lactulose dose correct that she is pooping at least 3x a day and that it is like soft ice cream, and she has to gain a little weight and be a little stronger, otherwise she would probably die on the table.

I do think this pup should have started on the proper protocol when the LS symptoms first started to show. And alot of times general Vets do not know this proper protocol and they do refer you to a specialist. I live in NY and we have some of the best Vets here. When my Roxy's BAT came back sky high, my Vet was honest and said this is not his field, and he referred me to a specialist. So that could be the case here too, maybe her Vet did tell her to see a specialist and maybe she just never followed thru - IDK...

I hope things work out for the best though....

Rescue would be my first option if I couldn't provide the proper care

But how do they know shes not a good canidate for surgery when she hasnt seen a specialist

No kidding. There is NO specialist in the world that will prescribe like that. I am just astounded that anyone would believe this.

After all I have read I don't know why I am shocked.

I probably should clarify...YT doesn't allow solicitation for donations from members. We do, of course, allow and encourage rescues to be a big part of our community here - and we *love* our rescue members here. But please understand, the rescues here have official charity tax-filing status, they aren't individual members seeking donations for their pets.

Megan, You are such a wise young lady, I wish they would listen. Its sad. I would like to know if Scintigraphy has been done? You cant just have a BAT test and say SHUNT. And you cant just make Phone Calls. Has the Doctor preformed Scintrgraphy?

Maybe surgery is not presently an option, but I can tell you that the people who have her don't know that...or the woman helping. She has never seen this puppy...and I am not sure at this point if a vet has either.

This puppy needs to be with people who CAN afford her and give her the best of veterinary care. Sorry, but she is NOT getting that. I cannot take her, but know rescues who can; and they would do what I would do...take her IMMEDIATELY to a specialist!!!

Sometimes I think this is all made up...either a troll or a scam.......and then I actually HOPE it is because I know what the outcome is going to be if this is a real live puppy. I hope I am proven wrong.....but seriously doubt it.
