| Ate pork had vomiting and diarrhia Both my fur butts were sick after just a pinch of ham on top of there dog food yesterday. My ayla first puked then my phoniex, he recovered afterwards but my ayla did not she continued to puke and have diarrhia. I tried to feed her some of her chicken and rice but she didnt hold that down. My little boy did. She then quit drinking and was lethargic by 10pm. I had to finger feed her some water. I did continue to check her for dehydration by pinching her skin and checking her gums. I decided to wait till today to call the vet. instead of taking her in to the emergancy. I was up all night with her she vomited a few more times dry heaves but I feed her some baby chicken and gerber rice mixed and she held it down. I was suprised that the vet did not take any blood work. She figured weather the test came back with pancreaitis or not she would treat it the same way so why poke her, the vet said. I guess I agreed but I am scared now she may have another epsoide. But oh my I am never giving anything that doesnt belong on there plate again. I figured since they ate chicken then the ham with out the fat would be ok boy was I wrong. Pork is bad in all forms for these little ones. I have continued with the baby food all day for both and she is on antibiotics but not sure if that is something she should be on she was all ready getting better. But I guess time will tell. I am glad that is wasnt a pancreatitis attack but I think it was a mild one. Or maybe it was a bug they caught. She almost tonight back to her old self full of piss and vinager. lol she is my independent one. So I am just wondering if anyone out there may have any advise on this, it would be so appreciated. Oh I also feed them innova puppy food with there rice and chicken but wont be adding this back into there diet for a few days. |

| Well you learned that lesson the hard way. Never never feed dogs pork. You can try a little canned pure pumpkin or some peeled apple to clear up the yucky poos. |

Pork and dogs do not match !!!! Never ever, specially yorkies that already have a delicate stomach. Please get educated about other foods/ things that can be just as dangerous for your yorkies: Grapes, cheese, potatoes, onions , raisins, just to name a few... oh yeah, chocolate or suggar free gum are pretty bad as well... XOXO

| Better yet somewhere on this site is a list of toxic foods and plants. If you can't find it here do a search for toxic foods and plants for dogs and you will get them all in one list. |

| Pork, ham, sausage, etc. are known to trigger pancreatitis. Yorkies are one of breeds prone to pancreatitis so it's especially bad for them. Pancreatitis (Inflammation) in Dogs You are lucky she recovered on her own. Pancreatitis can be very serious, even life threatening. A co-worker's father slipped her Yorkie one piece of ham during a holiday brunch and Sugar ended up in the ER for two days with a $2,000 bill. |

| Cheese causes pancreatitis in dogs??? How did I never hear that? I feed my dogs shredded cheese or split a piece of provolone cheese between them at least once every other week for 4 years now with nothing ever happening to them. Is this not good?

| Laci had a very slight case of pancreatitis, but ohh boy was she sick , I have no idea what caused it , but the vet did say that holiday time is the worst for cases of pancreatitis, Turkey skin, ham , fat etc. What my vet told me to do was NO treats, only boiled chicken and rice for 10 days, I did 2 weeks, I still do not use treats because once they had it 1 time they can get it again ( she can eat yorkie yummies chicken and rice & cherrios) , No more of the kids giving her a little bite of this and that. I switched her food to California Natural its low fat. I was told it does take at least 10 days for the pancreis to recover from sickness. | I also was questioning cheese, but I can see if they have had a problems (pancreatitis) this may be something to stay away from it is high in fat but I am staying away from the hard cheese from now on. I will continue to use yorgurt low fat maybe try some cottage cheese but that would be it. i just wish they didnt have to go threw this Ayla is doing much better today back to her barking and tearing up her squeekers. I still have them both on rice and chicken and I have been giving them 1tsp of yorgurt 2 a day after her antibiotic. I am not sure if meds was needed I hope she doesnt get yeast from this. I'm am already fighting a eye problem. I took her in on x-mas eve for. She was holding down her breakfast before I took her in so we will see. She still has not had a bowel movement. |

| Yes, The fat in cheese can trigger acute pancreatites. Of course if your dog is very very healthy and with moderation and common sense, just a little tiny bit of a very low fat cheese here and there is fine. But for yorkies just a little goes a long way. I know at least 3 people who own yorkies and had been at the emergency hospital to treat pancreatites triggered by cheese. We give cottage cheese, the low fat, to our nursing mommas. The problem is the fat in the cheese.
