| Sweet Sophie started HW treatment today.... I took, my rescue, Sweet Sophie to the vet this morning for her first heartworm treatment. I was almost in tears when I left...knowing the pain she was going to go through. She'll have to have 2 more shots in a month.... I'm am a pretty tough woman but I am a nervous wreck about bringing her home today and don't have confidence in my ability to take care of her. It just seems like there is SO much that could go wrong that could cost her her life. I would never ever forgive myself. I get to pick her up at 3 & I hope I can hold it together..... Say a little prayer for my girl!

Did the vet tell you the shot was painful? I didn't know that.

| SHe's home! As soon as we came in, I put her in her downsized expen & gave a nice bowl of Wellness canned salmon...she gobbled it up & let out a nice little burp. Then I was shredding some cooked chicken legs for soup so I gave her a few little bits of that. She was a little fussy for about 1/2 hr...pacing & growling at Keegan but finally sacked out. Tomorrow she goes for a laser treatment for soreness.

Little Fiona goes Monday for her first shot. She is a drama queen and carried on something fierce with her other shots, so I am not looking forward to this. Poor little thing.

I am sure you will be just great with her! The first time you deal with heartworm treatment is very scary. Just keep her quiet and all will go fine. The split treatment is the best way to go imo. I am glad they are doing that with your Sophie. I will say prayers for her...and for you. I know how intimidating it is.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | They gave you pain meds to take home too right? Those should help. Please let us know how she is doing - big, healing hugs to your baby! You could also pick her up some Bach Flowers Rescue Remedy and give it to her during this time

| Thanks for the well wishes. I took Sophie for her laser treatment this morning, which is for pain & swelling. I said to the Doc...I thought she was suppoed to be groggy for a couple of days! He started laughing & said...well she seems to have come out of it quite well! I think he was pretty pleased to see her so alert. She laid around last night but is back to my normal little girl today. She acts like nothing has happened. I have a list of things to keep an eye on so she'll be poked & prodded more than she may appreciate.... She hates the pen so I talked to the Doc & he said as long as she is quiet she can roam the house....which is what she usually does after her morning zoomies. Usually I leave the back slider open so they can roam the pool deck & backyard but there's too much of a chance of her getting all cranked up at a squirrel or a kayaker in the canal so....access has been denied!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Thanks for the update....that is so great she is handling it so well ! I have a friend who is going thru the treatments w/ a Lab too, and she is doing wonderful too. These babies have such great spirit for survival, so I'm sure your TLC will get her thru the worst of it.

Actually, even with the hyper ones, I have taken them out and put them on a leash and kept them close to me during the day so that they were not crated constantly.
