| Chronic Diarrhea in Dogs good article, describes all the testing available to determine causes of chronic diarrhea. I would go with the probiotics and food change, if that doesn't help, work with your vet to develop a plan of what to test for first. My first concern would be her weight and hydration. Keep a close eye on her, as the more info you can provide the vet the better. Color, consistency, frequency, in relation to eating and exercise, etc. any changes should be noted. As you change her food, keep track of what ingredients you are eliminating/adding and any effect on her systems. Good luck, and keep us updated!

| Thanks so much for all your information. I got back today from the vet and she will be doing a fasting blood work tomorrow.Checking her Pancreas. She did the Gardia test and it was neg. So our next step is to rule out food allergies since she has been on Canidae for 3 years. Might have developed a food allergy. We put her on RC Potato and White fish and we deworming in case of any hook worms, which they can get from squirrels, bird droppings or anything in your yard. I told my vet there is nothing worse than a long hair Yorkie with diarrhea and her reply was it could be worse it could be 100lbs long hair dog with diarrhea..Fingers crossed. She did loose a little weight but is very active and hydrated. |

to test the pancreas properly you do a spec cpli and tli - cpli tests for pancreatitis and tli tests for epi - epi is more diarhea related but it is a greyish diarhea color - if diarhea is yellow jelly poop and with a little blood in it at times it is colitis and if just diarhea and coccidia, giardia, and parasites ruled out most likely ibd. My dex never had diahrea with pancreatitis only vomitting violently so i have to say i doubt this is pancreatitis as your dog would be restless, in pain and vomitting violently from what i have experienced and mine almost died of it so it was pretty severe and no diarhea. The spec cpli hopefully your vet has the snap inhouse test otherwise the two pancreas tests take 3-4 days to come back from the lab | |

| Wanted to update everyone about Lola. She has not had a normal stool since June or July she has been on several meds and presc. dog food but nothing seemed to work. I found an incredible vet by the name of Dr Hawthorne who will be treating her for Lymphangiectasia. She is on Metro 2 times a day and Predrisolone once a day for 10 days. She is on the same diet for 10 days then if this is not working we will switch to lean ground turkey and white rice. I did try white rice today and she ate so far with no runny stool. I hope this helps. Any suggestions on zero fat high protein diet? Her blood levels are normal and she does not have a swollen abdomen. Thanks for your support. |

| My TJ has IBD. He was really bad when he was a baby, and after tons and tons of stuff, Tylan Powder is what finally helped him. He is almost 5 y/o now and he was like 99% good until June when he "caught a bug" and he had squirting poops with mucus for 2 weeks. The Metro helped him that time (didn't when he was a pup). But now since June, I can't get him to have steady good poops. It would be good for a few days and then he would have HUGE poops encased in a thick mucus like condom (sorry, that is exactly what it looked like). Anyway, I am adding a little pumpkin to his morning and evening meals, and it seems to help, but I resolved that if the mucus come back, he'll have to go back to the Tylan.... I hope you can get some relief soon for little Lola... P.S. When Roxy turned 3 she developed allergies too Last edited by TLC; 11-26-2009 at 09:46 AM. |
