| Accidents, accidents, accidents Hi all, Hoping someone has seen this problem before and can help. Roxy's 4, and she's (normally) incredibly well housebroken. Out of nowhere, she's started having accidents. She'll be walking across the room and all the sudden, she'll start peeing and squat. No sniffing (like normal), no planning. I can tell it really sneaks up on her. She then proceeds to feel terrible about it and she shakes and cowers like she's been bad. She even peed on our bed, which would NEVER happen normally. She had done it 2x in one day last Friday, after peeing on the bed Thurs. night, so I took her to the vet on Sat. Normal blood, sent the urine off. The doc said she had vaginitis, gave her clavamox, and sent us on our way. I gave it to her and also kept her confined to an x-pen. Normally, she says in my bedroom/bathroom with the tv on and a pee pad in the bathroom. Vet calls today, says the urine is fine. But tonight, as she's toweling off from her bath, she again starts peeing without warning on the towel she was just rolling on. That behavior is so unusual for her! She had also acted scared (shaking, etc) earlier in the evening, but I didn't find any pee. All the normal stuff hasn't changed: same food, same schedule, same stresses and stuff. Don't know what else could be causing it. Has anyone else had a baby with vaginitis, and did you see this as a symptom? Anyone have their pup frequently urinating without warning? Any guesses will start me on the right path. Thank you for reading... I'm losing a lot of sleep over this! |

| This sounds very similar to what has happened with Libby a few times. She also had a negative urine test. My vet palpated the bladder and thought he could feel a small stone. He had me give her lots of water. He said to let her food soak in water and give it to her that way. She didn't like it mushy, so I just added water to her kibble and she had to drink the water to get to the food. She cleared up quickly. It has happened a couple times since and I go back to the water with her food and she seems fine in a day of that. I don't know if she actually had a stone, but if she did, all this water helped her pass it. One night when she was having the problem, I did a search on the net for UTI at home remedies. One was to give them orange juice and I did that and it may have helped too. I'll be watching this thread, as I always wonder when Libby has an episode. Get well wishes to Roxy!

| If the antibiotics aren't clearing it up, it may be incontinence or something else entirely. She needs to see the vet again so you can talk about diagnostic imaging of her bladder.

| Roxy needs more tests to figure out what is going on. She needs bloodwork to rule out diabetes and xrays or an ultrasound to rule out stones. Is she spayed? |

| She is fixed. Bloodwork was normal. I give her raw food, which is by nature mushy, so I feel like I'm doing everything I can to try to help. I go back to the vet tomorrow and I will ask about stones. I was looking through her stuff today and noticed I have been giving her a new type of dental bone, which the timing coincides with her accidents. I wonder if they are somehow to blame? I have discontinued use and will see if it has anything to do with it, too. Thanks to all of you for your help! I will let you know what the vet says. |

| Just an update. All xrays were normal, all urine and bloodwork normal. Vet said she had a vaginal infection and she was on an antibiotic for 14 days. That just ended and she is intermittently (like once a week) having accidents. I bought a carpet spot machine, so I am just cleaning as it happens. I have no real idea of what's going on, and the vet said he would prescribe this bladder medicine that would help keep her from peeing. I was kind of irritated about that: I don't just want to make it stop; I want to know WHY it's happening. Breezeaway, I would think abnormal protein levels would show in one of those tests I did... If you know more, I'd be interested to hear. I can ask for the bloodwork results. After 2 $170, I'm tapped for cash until next week, and I'm tired of giving this vet money so that he can shrug his shoulders at me. |

| Thanks for the update. Vets who can't diagnose and just write prescriptions to mask the symptoms really bug me too! Good luck getting to the bottom of this. |

| No news is good news on this front. The urinary urgency seems to have subsided, but I'm going to my parents house (1200 miles away) where Roxy's original vet is, and I'm taking the blood tests/urine results with me for her opinion. I trust her infinitely more than anyone I've found down here in Houston. |

| Sounds like you may have found the problem with her new dental bone maybe. If everything stays well, I'd bill the vet for figuring it all out yourself hahaha.

| Glad to hear that she's doing better. I hate it when the vet can't tell us what is going on. . .
