This sounds very similar to what has happened with Libby a few times. She also had a negative urine test. My vet palpated the bladder and thought he could feel a small stone. He had me give her lots of water. He said to let her food soak in water and give it to her that way. She didn't like it mushy, so I just added water to her kibble and she had to drink the water to get to the food. She cleared up quickly. It has happened a couple times since and I go back to the water with her food and she seems fine in a day of that. I don't know if she actually had a stone, but if she did, all this water helped her pass it.
One night when she was having the problem, I did a search on the net for UTI at home remedies. One was to give them orange juice and I did that and it may have helped too.
