Well he had a high glusoce level and high insulin levels which led the vet to believe it was insulinoma. Basically, we wont know unless we go through with the surgery. Which, because he has a high white blood cell count, he can't be put under because it is too dangerous. They have done scans of his chests and stomach to see if he has any metastasis which is a cancer spreading tumor. We are going to find out if they found one on the scans in about an hour. Good thing is, he doesnt have pancretitis (sp) which is excellent. We have decided not to do the surgery. We simply cannot afford it. There is no way I can take that on at this point in my life. The vet also told us he thinks that at his age, he may not do so well at surgery. So we are going to take him home and take care of his as best we know how. It could possibly not be the cancer, in that case he will just get better and wont show any symptoms and hopefully be with us for many more years. Please pray for him. He needs all the prayers he can get. Thanks to everyone for the support. We love you guys!

| Toby had low sugar and high white blood cell count. Thats about it. I would like you to read this forum about this awful disease. I found it doing research after reading your posts. http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/sho...?t=1161&page=1 I read on there many postings on there where people opted not to do surgery and their dogs lived for over 2 years. Some that did the surgery died after 6 months. From the reads you'll see that people are giving their dog prednisone everyday. (I was giving Toby a 1/2 pill every other day, now its upped to every day) Diet was huge. 4-5 meals a day. Keep corn syrup around in case of seizure. Rub on gums. Should end the seizure quickly. Hopefully this will help. I had the vet do a complete blood work on Toby Monday. I'm sure he would have seen it in his blood. But just in case I left a message with him to call me back. I'm praying for you and your furbaby. |

| Mine is in the ICU now for this Quote:
This just isn't sitting well with me, he is my baby and I am not sure this is whats going on. They have said surgery will buy him some time if this is truly what is going on, however, I am wondering if this is that common in little dogs - they are telling me it isn't. Mine too is my baby, its been a heck of a week with him at the vet hospital, I cannot imagine my life without the little guy. | |

| I am just reading this but wanted to let you know that a few years ago we had a Chihuahua beagle mix that was diagnosed with this same thing. We were so dumb when she started bugging my husband for his coke (which he would give her) we just thought she was being a pest. We took her to the vet when she started falling down. Our vet did the research and told us what he suspected and confirmed with tests. He told us her begging for and drinking the coke is what kept her alive. He told us about a specialist that would come and do the operation and we would maybe get a couple of more years with her. She was about 14 years old. We did opt to do the surgery and she came through it wonderfully and we got an extra three years with her before it came back. You opting not to do the surgery may be the best thing in the long run for her. I don't regret having the surgery done one bit even though it was expensive. It just may not be the best thing for everyone. Her cancer was attached to the pancreas, liver and another organ I can't remember. |
