| Update Dh and I took shifts last night to make sure she didn't get into trouble. We had to support her every time she went wee underneath and on both sides of her little body. She spent a lot of time just staring at nothing, and it was difficult to get her attention. I hand fed her when we got home yesterdsy and again at 11 pm. ,and again at 7 this morning. She ate very well. Took her to our Vet, this morning. He had the assistant put Uma on the floor, she told him she couldn,t, he said just remove your hands. Uma can not control her limbs and she lists from side to side and when the girl laid her on her side she could not get up. She has been like that since we picked her up yesterday. He looked in her eyes and her gums. He says she has edema on the brain and asked if I had fed her. I told him yes, he asked if she ate well, I told him yes. He said heer gums are a little pale and he wants to keep her untill 3 pm. or so and start an i.v. He told me she would need sedation the rest of her life because we could not pssibly watch her every min. He said there were other alternative drugs that could be used such as bromide ? That is pretty much where we are now.

| Don't panic yet. It takes a while for the valium to get out of their system. Hopefully the edema in her brain will go down. Seizures cause a huge rise in body temperature which probably caused the brain to swell. "Bromide" is potassium bromide. Lady is on both pheno and potassium bromide. Potassium bromide takes months to get into their system so make sure she is on pheno, too. They will have to keep checking Uma's blood to achieve the proper levels of drugs. Canine Epilepsy-Using Potassium Bromide to control seizures in dogs Hang in there. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I read your update too and see she is back at the vet on IV. What are they doing for the edema - do they have her on a diuretic or are they just going to wait for it to drain?

| I was glsd to read you and your husband took shifts...if I were closer I would have taken one for you. Please hang in there...this could be valium hangover and that can take a while to get out of their system. Give it a while to see if things fall back in place...you know we'll be here if you need us...even if it's just to talk. |

| Update for spiked poodle about uma My mama will be on here a little later to update everyone concerned. Right now I am updating as much as I know. My mama can't right now because she is trying to keep Yoko busy, Uma checked, and making dinner at the same time...lol (super woman abilities she has) Uma's vet thinks that Uma obtained a compressed disk during the seriously bad attacks from yesterday morning. She is unable to bend her back legs and is still unable to stand by herself. Every two hours my mama needs to give her 3 cc's of Verbac (?) Rebound. Her Heploc is still in place at this time. Uma is not to have any Phenobarbital UNLESS an attack occurs and then she needs 16.2 mil and taken to the emergency room ASAP. The vet has been pushing alot of fluids on her, and mama suspects that is to help flush the heavy dosages from yesterday out. Uma goes back to the vet tomorrow morning. I hope I got this info to the people concerned in away that will make my mama happy and answer any questions y'all may have. Please keep little Uma in your hearts still....I am soooo glad Uma has my mama in this time of need...she could have been in another home with people unable to care for her...or unable to care about her. Thanks! |

| Another update on Uma...scarey My mama just called to say Uma had yet another attack. It was a relatively minor one, only involving her right leg and a slight arching in the back. Mama called her main vet, and thank goodness he is the one on call tonight at the E.R. He told her to give Uma 8.1 mil of Phen and if she does have another one to give her 8.1 mil more and take her in. I can not imagine how my parents are getting through this and how it is that this is not resolved yet! Mama is praying that the Clustering does not occur again and praying this does not become Staticus Epilepticus (I hope i spelled that right) |

| Update Our Vet. had given Uma a glucose IV and lasix to rid her of fluid and hoping to reduce the edema. The rebound is electrolytes to replace those washed out by the lasix. She seems much more aware and knows who I am today. She was so happy to see my daughter! My daughter is here untill 3 am. to spell me....I didn't ask, she just showed up. What a sweetie. Umas' back legs are stiff and she now has a bow in her back like a cat all arched up. She cannot sit up on her own, nor can she maintain a sitting position without being held in position, if you can get her to bend her legs. Her front legs are starting to become stiff as of today. She can move her head normally and has no problems eating or drinking if the food is brought to her mouth. She has to lay on her side to eat or drink, at least that is the only position I have found that is comfortable to her. She had another seizure at 5:30 and it involved only one leg.Our Vet. advised to give 8.1 mg. of phenobarbital and call if she had any more seizures . The pill worked thank goodness. I worry that she is having silent seizures between the obvious ones. She hasn't really slept last night or tonight that DH or I could see. Unless she is sleeping with her eyes open. She goes back to her Vet. tomorrow morning and we will see what happens next. If she could at least stand on her own I would be ecsatic for her. Oh, the vet left the heploc in so he might be going to give more lasix?

| I'm so glad she is more aware and recognizes you. I'm sure the arched back is from her compressed disc. Poor baby. She has so much going on. She sounds like a fighter, though. I'm glad your vet started the pheno again. I'm not sure why the other vet stopped it. I pray she has a good night and continues to improve. |

| Has anyone mentioned that Uma could have GME, Granulomatous Meningioencephalitis?? Brooke is in remission from it and it does have some of the symptoms you have mentioned. Ask your vet, if it could be GME. Brooke was twisted up in a c position at one point and couldn't even move her head or stand. I took her for acupuncture and now she can run, jump, play and is almost 100% normal. I wish the same for your little Uma. Hugs and strength to you.
