| We need all the prayers you can send Umas' way. My sister says when the seizures are this severe in humans they generally perform a lobotomy. I think they just put our babies down. I still have hope that this can be managed, but I am aware I could lose my sweet Uma.

| Well, I am something of an outcast on here...but hopefully people won't mind to much...lol. We are leaving after Kayla gets up from her nap to go get her a costume...so if u call and I don't answer...that is why. (She had another let down...we couldn't take her to the fair because of the rain and we promised her that we would take her to Mike's Farm...well...they aren't open...so...a costume is in order to put a smile back on her face).. I hope she is ok! I agree above...they should be able to do something! I LOVE U! |

| I am praying they can stop Uma's seizures. Lady has been an epileptic for years and that is my greatest fear, cluster seizures turning to status epilepticus. Please keep us updated. |

| I hope you vet can get things under control...you will both be in my thoughts and prayers. I found this site in another post here on YT: Canine epilepsy and diseases that cause seizures in dogs It's full of wonderful information, diets, personal stories and tips to help when a seizure occurs. They can be brought on by so many things...not just epilepsy. There is also a page that tells what chemicals can cause seizures...I will be checking against my cleaning supplies so I won't be taking any chances. |

| It is continual seizures without recovering in between. That's when brain damage can occur. This is a fabulous website. Here is a better explanation: STATUS EPILEPTICUS AND CLUSTER SEIZURES I am so glad she hasn't had a seizure for a few hours. That is a really good sign! |

| Thank-you. My heart is breaking for my baby. Why do people breed this stuff into their pups? They can't possibly have hearts. Uma never hurt anyone and yet she has to suffer. The vet. told me it is hereditary. Someone had to know they were breeding this into defenseless little pups.

| They said no seizures since the last phone call, but they are gonna keep her another 2 hours or so. I"M afraid I might have to make that awfull decision, since she seems to be having those reaaly bad ones. I am scared for her.

| Are you absolutely sure that she didn't come into contact with anything that may have brought these on? I know that when my Winston had his first, he was 2 years old also, we were thinking maybe he had eaten a wild mushroom, you know the kind that pop up in your lawn after a rain, my vet showed me the literature stating eating these can cause seizure activity. It ended up probably being low blood sugar as far as we know...since he's had many since then...and I'm positive there are no mushrooms in our yard. I pray the vet is able to get control of these seizures...and she'll be home with you very soon. You did the right thing, taking her to the emergency vet, they're doing the right thing keeping her there to treat and observe. All we can do is try to learn as much as we can...and pray!

Unfortunately, there is no genetic marker for epilepsy so parents can't be tested before breeding. It also usually doesn't start until a dog is several years old so they could have had puppies before ever having that first seizure. They can also be carriers with no seizures themselves. It just emphasizes how important it is to get a puppy from a reputable breeder who knows her lines generations back. Getting a puppy from someone who doesn't understand genetics and just puts two dogs together is like playing Russian Roulette with their future health. Try to stay optimistic about Uma. Lady had two days of cluster seizures a few years ago. We were very concerned about permanent brain damage and it took her two weeks to recover. Most of her behavior afterwards, drunken gait, etc, was from a valium hangover, not the seizures. It took a few weeks to get it out of her body. | |
