Immediately Pooping out Undigested Food??? Hi...I am a little worried about TJ. This morning we all got up at 5:30am. TJ and Roxy both peed after a few minutes of saying good morning. But TJ's rear (digestive area?) was making really loud sounds. I have heard them before (from TJ and Roxy) and I now know that it is from something bad that they got into and ate. In the past when I have heard these sounds, their behavior is a little playful, but more reserved. They don't want to eat, maybe a bit but that's it. Then it is a matter of waiting to poop, and it is usually very runny, lite colored and mucusy. After this poop the sounds go away and the pup is back to their normal self and is ready to eat, etc... But this morning was different. Within 15 minutes of waking up TJ poop 2x different times, both were medium dark colored and a little soft. These sounds were going the whole time. He was so active, playful wrestling with Roxy! He ate 2 pieces of dry food and seemed ok, except for the sounds. Now, it is time to go downstairs and they play while I get their breakfast together. They were crazy chasing and playing, but I could hear those sounds! TJ didn't want his nutrical and I made boiled chicken and rice for TJ, which he only ate a tiny, tiny bit. Roxy ate like usual (pig). After some playing, TJ pooped. I actually thought he threw up. It was very small, kinda beige/yellow in color, smelled like food and there was like 4 or 5 pieces of whole rice. So I thought he threw it up. Then I checked his butt and it was poop, I had to clean his butt. For the next hour the sounds continued. Now it is time for them to go back in their room and me to go to work. I brought up the rice and chicken and TJ ate a few more pieces of rice and I tiny little piece of a biscuit. But within 5 minutes he ran into his box and pooped, beige/yellow non smelling, a little mucus and RICE!!!! What is going on? Why is the food passing right through? Is that normal? I am racking my brain to think of what he got into. The only thing that was out of the ordinary is this: Saturady was a field trip day. We visited my parents jewlery store and Hoover, I mean TJ, always found something on the floor (bugs, paper, etc.) I tried to get from him what I could, but I am sure he ate something. Next, we went to my stepmom house. She has cats, and TJ did manage to eat about 3 pieces of their cat dry food (Yellow in color), I am sure he may have eaten a piece of bird seed, paper, etc. around the house as well. So, would that have done it? But that was Saturday today is Monday, can that stuff be effecting him now? Also, there has been other times, not many, but a few times, where I have inspected TJ's poop and their has been unchewed pieces of chicken or meat roll. Is that normal for him to poop undigested food? Is it b/c he is not really chewing? Should I be really worried right now? Any advice would be great!

I would try really hard to get a stool spec and take it to the vet. Ask the vet if you need to bring him in and follow his advice. Make sure he drinks plenty of water and stays hydrated. BUT, I still suggest you follow up with your vet...sounds like he has a really irritable bowel problem. Lomotil or Immodium might be ordered..A doc who worked in my clinic used to say "Lomotil is so effective it will stop a terd in mid air!" That is true for doggies too..

Thanks for your advice. We go to the Vet on Friday AM for TJ's neuter appt. I am going to go over everything with the Vet and see what he says. I do believe TJ has a sensitive tummy and like I said, I call him hoover b/c he will eat and chew on anything! When I got home yesterday, the sounds had stop, he ate like a pig, had some stinky farts and then pooped (soft, but not mucus or diarrhea) he played and drank lots of water. He was back to normal. THANKS!

Having had a yorkie with irritable bowel syndrome for the past 8 years it certainly sounds to me as if your little guy has some problems. You should take him to the vet ASAP. If caught early enough irritable bowel syndrome can be successfully treated. Here is one suggestion, only feed your dog one type of dog food, absolutely no human food, and only use one type of treat, use his/her dog food as treats. NO rawhides, chewies, etc. The sounds you hear are bowel sounds, same as we humans get when we our tummies aren't happy. Your little guy may be allergic to whatever it is you are feeding him and the vet may suggest a change in diet. If you restrict his intake to only one type of dog food ruling out what he is allergic too will be much easeir on you and your pup in the long run. Do not use immodium on a regular basis as you will drastically upset the dog's natural bowel cycle. Only use immodium if your dog has severe diahhrea and even then only on the advice of your vet.

Thanks for advice! I have had a feeling that TJ has a senstive tummy. I think he is still somehow picking on things around the house still (wood/paint mouldings and I catch him chewing of the fibers of the couch and they eat poop!). I don't give them any junk. For breakfast and dinner they have Innova dry for puppies, 4-5 tiny, tiny pieces of boiled chicken and a few pieces of Natural Balance Lamb/Rice meat roll. (In the AM I put missing link in) For Treats they get Mother Hubard ? biscuits for puppies, 3 tiny, tiny pieces of frozen apple, and for potty purposes approx. 5 a day honey nut cherrios. I had given them Quest Nylabone Nutri Dent 4 times (10 min. max each time). Do you think this food is hurting his tummy? I have only heard the girgiling aprox. 4 or 5 separate times, and they were about 2 months ago, when he was DEFINATELY eating the wall and the wood/paint mouldings and god knows what else... I will talk it over with the Vet. What kind of diet is your little one?

Wow, that is one complicated diet. If you don't mind me asking where did you get the diet from? At first glance I can see several items that may cause him difficulty. Cheerios? They are full of sugar and chemicals. Fruit? I'd not recommend giving a puppy fruit of any kind until they are at least a year old and even then it would be only now and again as a special treat. These little guys can have very sensitive stomachs and it is best to keep them on one vet approved puppy food and one vet approved treat. You can try adding other things once the dog is older and their systems have had a chance to develop. The combination of puppy food, lamb & rice, chicken, fruit, cereal, treats is far too much for his stomach to handle. I'd suggest you restrict him to puppy food and dog biscuits/treats. Actually I prefer to use dry puppy food as treats. I learned the hard way to scale down the variety of stuff the dogs were getting.

I saw that you had posted that he didn't want his nutrical. The way you said it I got the idea he gets it every day? I wanted to ask why? I am not against using nutrical for a reason but it will cause a looser stool and I do not understand why you would give it unless he wasn't eating and you are afraid of a hypoglycemic episode. Just curious. Maybe I am just uninformed on other reasons for using nutrical.

I am taking your advice with the food and treats. I started last night and only fed them the Innova dry for puppies with 4 very tiny (almost nothing) pieces of boiled chicken (the chicken just gets them started on the dry). I will continue to use the Mother Hubard Puppy Biscuits as a treats, I think are a healthy approved treat, Wellness makes them. I will only mix in the Natural Balance Lamb & Rice meat roll evey now and then (do you think that's ok, b/c they just love it and Natural Balance is suppose to be good, right?) NO more apples! and I guess NO more cherrios. I used the cherrios as potty training treats, b/c the were so easy! But I do not want to hurt them in any way. I guess what I can do it break up the puppy biscuits really small (like a cherrio) and start to use them as the potty reward. The only other thing they got last night for literaly 3 or 4 minutes is the Quest Nylabone Nutri Dent b/c they ate poop before I could get to it. I cleaned up their faces and I gave it to them for those few minutes to freshen their breath! From here on out they will only get it under the circumstance of poop eating and hopefully that will end very soon! As far as the Nutri Cal goes, I was under the impression they should get it every morning? I only give them the size of a small pea. Roxy was hypoglycemic at one point in her early months. I just thought it is best to give them a little everyday? Also, I did still sprinkle the missing link on their dry food this morning, is that ok too? I think this should be better for them, BUT it is only 50% of the battle. Like I said, TJ is a hoover vacuum, and believe me, I DO CONSTANT inspecting and cleaning and puppy proofing. Some how, every now and then he decids to chew on couch, the corner of a new wall, the moulding, cardboard, etc. I think when a new tooth is loose or an adult one is pushing through he needs to chew and just finds something! So that is the other 1/2 that effects his tummy. I will just take things one day at a time. I hope the food part which I can control very easy will help a lot though. Again, THANKS so much for your thoughts and suggestions, I do appreciate it. I am learing everyday from TJ and Roxy and from all the kind people here on YT.

I am not sure what all the hype is about the nutrical,if your puppy is eating as good as he is I see no reason for it.Certainly if you have a tiny puppy that is not eating well you should use it.But your puppy sounds like he is a great little eater It is a great thing for low blood sugar and helps some of the tiny ones alot but yours doesn't sound like he falls in the category.I would just save my money
