| my puppy will not look up. I got a new puppy about 6 weeks ago. he suddenly became very sick, he was in the hospital for 2 days, he was a very very sick boy. they run tests, and do not know why he is sick, I am sure he did not get into anything, he was not injured in any way, he sudenly would not eat, and then vomited and almost became dehydrated, the vet kept him alive by putting fluids under the skin, and now he is back home. almost normal EXCEPT- he will not look up. when I talk to him he runs to me, but will only look at my legs, he will not look up into my face, any ideas to what this could be ? |

I wonder if all is ok in the medical depart, if he is coming to you as the pack leader by not looking into your eyes/face? Try holding a treat near your face while sitting on the floor with him to see if he will look in your direction then start moving the treat around in the air to see if he follows it. I am assuming that his eye sight is ok. Let us know how he is doing. Last edited by MyAngel; 07-09-2008 at 03:12 PM.

| I am sure it is medical. before he got sick, he would do anything to get my attention. he was such a loving boy. he acts like he can't move his neck now. I have even tried to coax hiim with a treat, but he can't look up. it has something to do with his sickness, but we do not know what kind of desease affects a puppy like this. I am absolutely positive he did not get injured. |

| Maybe when he was at the vet he got a shot that is making his neck sore?? Have you tried to rub it and see if there is a knot or if it seems sore????? |

| I am so sorry your little one has been sick. Has he been checked for Atlanto-axial instability or AAI? This can be a very dangerous condition and has to do with the neck. Not saying that's what he has but you might want to ask your vet. It is not normal for him to hold his head that way.

Someone mentioned injection site or any vaccines - have your checked to see that all is ok in the area of the site if given around the neck? Is he eating and drinking ok? He may have injured himself without you seeing it. Does he jump off furniture, etc. I hope you will be able to get a 2nd opinion very soon. I will keep your little one in my thoughts that all will be well soon. Here is a link to a vet board if you want to post to see if they can be of any help. Vet to Vet - AOL Message Boards

| My Standard Poodle wouldn't look at me one time (a few years ago) and I knew something was wrong...I took her to the vet and told the vet she was broken. She went through all her body parts and when she got to her neck she kind of screamed. She concluded that she had a stiff neck so she gave me some muscle relaxers and within 24 hours she was back to normal. She said that they are like us and sometimes they can sleep on it wrong, which must have been the case. Hopefully it is just something like that. Good luck.

| Please go to the vet one more time to check out the neck issue. I hope he is ok and it is something minor.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | If it is still bothering him I would get him checked out again. Could it possibly be from where they place the water in the back of the neck like a hump to rehydtare him thatis causing him some doscomfort? Hope he is better soon

| possible ear also I had a neighbor that had a german short hair that had the same issue, and the vet said she had inner ear infection Just an idea But the neck sounds logical There is no way that your dog fell off something while you were not watching they are like kids they have accidents with and without us I would demand the vet to find an answer or go for a second opinion |
