| Louie's skin...again Okay so Louie' been in remission for a month or so from all the skin issues. But last week, the dryness, bumps, flaking, and itching started up again. He's been to two vets, they've done blood tests, cultures, and skin scrapings and I get the same answers time and time again...nothing can be found internal, there was no bacteria present, ughhhhhh i cant take it. So i'm posting these on the forum, hopefully someone can give me some feedback on what this could be to take back to the dermo i'm taking him to. Notice his nose in the last pic... http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...Picture057.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...louieskin5.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...louieskin3.jpg http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...louieskin1.jpg

| wow, those pictures are something. I don't know what to tell you as far as a name. We have been dealing with something too. I think it's leather ear - thought you might be describing that too, but your pictures make me think otherwise. (fyi if you want to know more about this http://www.shooterdog.com/alexfaq3.htm - about halfway down the page) I wanted to tell you about this great shampoo I got from my vet (he's traditional vet turned holistic/acupuncture vet - but does it all depending on the needs) this is the website for the shampoo - you can buy from them. http://www.tomerlabs.com/pet_products/phytoclens.html I would definitely find a good shampoo -- this one contains: PHYTOCLENS Herbal Shampoo Phytoclens Himalayan Cedar Shampoo contains the natural essential oils of Himalayan cedarwood (Cedrus deodara) and Eucalyptus leaf oil (Eucalyptus globulus). Phytoclens use in a regular regimen promotes healthy skin and coat. This is what I found about those ingredients oils of Himalayan cedarwood http://www.aroma-pure.com/cedarwood.htm Eucalyptus leaf oil http://www.aroma-pure.com/eucalyptus.htm Or at the very least try a very, very good oatmeal shampoo. What are you feeding Louie?? I just wonder if it is an allergic reaction to something in his diet

| I don't know, but my best guess would be an allergy to something. Has anything changed recently? Also, like another poster sugeested, maybe a different shampoo to at least alleviate the symptoms? Blessings to you, and I pray you find out something soon! |

| I had a little Maltese who had bad skin for sooo long & we too did all kinds of tests, but nothing showed up. My vet finally did a skin biopsy & she had Sebaceous Adenitis - it's really rare & probably not what your little one has, but thought I'd mention it....Good Luck.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | OH.MY.GOSH. That brought tears to my eyes. Heartbreaking, those pics. I'm sure you've gone through all of this before - but, what are feeding and all of that? Have you tried homecooking or raw? Have you talked with a nutritionist? Have you looked into Chris Christenson's Peace and Kindness at all?

| update So yesterday we took Louie to his 3rd appointment since my last post. After being told he possibly had scabies but they couldnt find scabies...he was treated for it anyways. Although yesterday we had a breakthrough, the doctor did another scraping and he said he is 100 percent positive Louis has a demodetic mite. The doctor explained this is easily cured in 3 months times and MUCh better news than scabies or allergies :-) He said he'd never seen a case of demodetic mites in a yorkie in his 30 yrs of practicing. Im soo..ooo relieved!!!! He said in 3 months times, Louie should be his old self again...hair and skin :-) Thanks so much for the help and concerns.

| Demodex is common when the immune system is broken down. Charlie's records show he has had it since he was 4, he is now 11. What did the vet prescribe? When I adopted Charlie last year, he had it but treated for allergies. Any cortisone medication which includes steroids should not be used on animals with demodex (mange). It activates the mites. Your pup's case look very painful. Charlie was given Ivermectin until three scraping did not reveal the mites. A scraping always shows whether the mites are dead. I also use Revolution monthly to protect him from reoccurrence. If there are no other problems involved, high quality food (grain free) and fish oil supplements will help him. Warmly, Deborah

| Louie's vet prescribed ivermectin 1 x daily for the mites, simplicef 1x daily for other skin infections that may have been a result of the mites, and hydroyzine for the itching. Im soooo happy we figured out the problem especially since louie was taking prednisone at one time for what another vet thought was allergies. The strange thing is louie never seemed "in pain", definitely itchy but never "in pain". And yes the vet told us that for him to have this mite means his immune system is not working properly. The stranger thing about this situation is I have lupus, my immune system is suppressed by steriods because it works against me as well...ironic huh? like mommy like son i guess
