| ![]() Hello I just posted in the general discussion introducing myself and my baby boy Spike. But anyhow, he has been sick for a while now. We have not even had him for a week and he has been in the animal hospital longer than with us. He is 10 weeks old and was diagnost with Coccidia. We had him for the first night and he was kinda sad, but we didnt want to stress him so we let him sleep. The next morning he was pretty playful ate a bit, but not enough. Less than 12 hours of having him we had to rush him to the animal hospital for hypoglycemia. He was at the hospital for 24 hours then released to us. He was his normal self again, but then he started not wanting to eat. So we took him to a local Vet and told us how to feed him by forcing him with A/D and Gatorade. He seemed to do pretty good and started eating on his own, but then he refused to eat. Then after forcing him he threw it all up and had diahrea. So we once again rushed him to the animal hospital on 10/24 to where is now. The doctors just called and said he had Coccidia. He did not want to eat at the doctor and had IVs put in him. Has anyone experienced Coccidia before and how long does it take to cure? Does it make them go into Hypoglycemia? So we have been some worried parents for our new baby and want the best for him. We are in the process of calling the pet store owner to see if he will help us with the medical bills since this pup was hospitalized twice within 24 hours of having him. Well thanks for your input in advance and please pray for our little man. Thanks. |

| ![]() Also, I dont understand it because he would eat on his own for a day, but then later that night, he didnt want anything to do with the food or anything. So i tried feeding him a couple times and didnt want nothing, so i force fed him and he threw it up. I dont understand how he could be find and then the next minute be horrible. The pet store said he was find during the week they had him. I dont believe that. |

Usually hypoglycemia by itself is not covered by any health guarantee. I hope he's on the mend soon.

| ![]() My Murphy suffered bad with coccidia to wherre his diarrhea was very bloody. He spent some time in and out of the hospital. He was so sick, and the vet we have was wonderful. He put Murphy on ALBON and he also took Reglan for vomitting and and another drug for the diarrehea. It took our Murphy over a month to finally be better. He struggles now at 7 months old with a sensitive stomach which causes him not to eat and gives him the runs sometimes. He is only 3lbs 13 ozs. All the meds were of liquid form and easy to give. I hope your baby will be well soon, as I know the heartbreak it causes to watch them sick. Please let me know how your baby is doing. Katharine

| ![]() Yes, it is hard to see these kinds of things. My mother-in-law has two yorkies and she didnt have any problems with them. After getting Spike I realized all the problems associated with Yorkies and the toy breeds. My wife and I have two healthy kids and the pet store owner was going off on my wife stating we dont know how to raise a puppy, its just like a human baby. Man, he really got her fired up. We have had no problems with our children and they are now old enough to take care of their selfs, so we did something right. Sorry for the rambling, Im just stressed out over all this and we havent even had him in our possession for a week. I just need to vent to some fellow supporters. Sorry |

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | ![]() HI! yes I have dealt with coccidia and sounds like you have gotten some great advice! Thanks for the pm by the way ![]() Diggy had it when i got him....it shows up in fecal exams. Digy was treats with Albon drops which came in a pre measured small syringe for easy administration. The bad thing about coccidia is it does not always float in a fecal exam, give a a false negative test result. I took Diggys stool samples in once a week for 3 weeks after he finished his medications. I got lucky and it really was gone. You do not normally have to make an appt. with your vet for a fecal exam. I just dropped off the stool sample and paid 19 dollars and they called me with the results. There is a wealth of info on this site about coccidia as it is a pretty common in pups. on the right hand part of you screen towards the top there is a search button....type coccidia in the box and all threads about coccidia will show up. Its very helpful and a great tool!!! If you need anything else you can always pm me again. I hope all goes well with your lil fur butt and i wich you good luck! Hope that helps! Paula.

| ![]() yes, coccida is in all dogs and most never have problems or know they have it, nor the owners. sometimes when a puppy has been sent to a new home, the stress of all the changes will cause it to begin having symptoms . that is what my vet said anyhow and I have read that stress can cause it. It is much harder on puppies but usually they get over it with treatment. My vet treats with ALBON. Then you have to make sure you clean the area where he has been pooing before you put him back on it. |

| ![]() The pet store owner blamed you guys?! I have always felt that there are a lot of people out there that shouldn't be pet owners, but if your dog gets sick that fast and your response is to take it to the vet, it isn't your fault. It is the pet store's or the puppy mill breeder. You tell them that you are concerned about the health of your dog and other's and all they hear is that you want your money back. They don't even care about the animals, just how much money they are going to lose. I hope that your dog gets better. There are a lot of people out there pulling for him. |

| ![]() Well, we got Spike Sunday afternoon after 4 days in the hospital. He came home energitic and very playful, but he is still sleeping a ton and not eating by him self. We were excited to have him home, but now the long nights await us. Although he did sneek some food by himself, so we were excited about that. But we have a very strict schedule now, feeding every 3 hours of about 7CC and corn surup on the gums. So I hope it all works out. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers. |

| ![]() Well, here is another update. Just went home for lunch and the wife has been feeding him on his schedule and giving corn surup. Well, he has been able to hold down the food, but he still seems like he has no energy. All he wants to do is sleep. His gums are light pink and he seems just to be left alone and lazy. So we called the animal hospital and they said to take him in to the vet to check things out. So, once again today he is going back to the vet. We are getting tired of all this, we have not even had the pup in our home for more than a 3 days. |
