| ![]() My 3 years old yorkie boy has been acting strange for past month. 1) He would start shaking out of NO WHERE. He has NEVER done this. Sometimes he shakes so hard that his whole body goes crazy. 2) Sometimes when I try to pet him or lift him up, he starts yelping really loud. So I took him to the vet this Saturday. He got X-ray & blood drawn out. The vet said X-ray looks fine BUT his value for pancrease came out LITTLE BIT LOW. Hence she thinks it was his pancrease that was bothering him which lead him to shake his body. She prescribed Pain Killers & Antibiotics. I was wondering if any of you guys went through this situation. First of all, what did she mean when the "value came out low"? She has adviced me to just wait and see if he gets worse...since it isn't serious. And if he has pancrease problems, why would she prescribe Antibiotics to us? Pancrease value being low means (I THINK) it's not secreting enough or proper enzymes to break down the food...hence it doesn't have anything to do with having infection? I am SO worried. It kills my heart whenever I see him shaking and in pain. It has been day 3....I am just hoping it's nothing serious Thanks you guys. xoxo |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | ![]() Sorry to hear your baby is not feeling well. I would call the vet and ask for a diagnosis and what the meds are going to do for him. If you are giving him table scraps stop that as it can bring on pancreas problems. Hope he feels better soon.

| ![]() Did you change his diet or give him any different food lately? Mine has had a severe pancreatitis but it was from table food. She was so sick she was on IV for 4 days and almost died. It was a sudden change in diet. They are really prone to pancreatitis... If ou see your dog getting worse and dehydrating bring it to the vet immidiately. Do you have any NutriCal handy? That will help. Try not to feed him for 24 hour and give him water and NutriCal so the pancreas will cleaned itself. I read an article saying that a lot of people continue feeding their dogs when they have a pancreatitis... but this can be wrong and can make it worse. It has to clean itself. Often dogs will not eat when this happens... It's a way to let you know that something is not good. But of course you have to give them something light so it doesn't have hypoglecimia. His shaking could be from that too if he doesn't eat a lot. That's how it all started for me. But I gave her Honey until we figure out what was wrong... it helped her but she kept on getting worse getting worse and worse.... Is he vomiting? Is there any more symptoms? Do you find his ears cold? Is he getting yellowish? What do you feed him at the moment? Be careful and good luck.

| ![]() Hello, Thanks for all the replies. I will call the Vet soon but I know I have to wait at least 24 hours until her response as they get super busy. Currently, I am feeding him KARMA dry food. He has been eating that for almost 2 years now...hm. Did you guys hear anything bad about that food? Also I feed him Boiled White chicken breast. Where can I get Nutrical? And what exaclty is it? My vet never told me anything about it. He doesn't show any signs of vomiting, diahrrea, etc etc. SOmetimes during the day he would start shaking and his tail would be down....but other times he would jump up and down like a lil happy bunny. ![]() |

| ![]() Oh ok, it's probably not the food... NutriCal is a kind of very nutritious thick paste. You can give a small amount to them if they don't eat properly. It helps them and prevents hypoglycemia. I guess you will have to see the vet. I cannot help from here ![]() ![]()

| ![]() You can get the NutriCal at Petsmart. It has calcium in it too which is good for their little bones and teeth. Keep us posted.

| ![]() Zeus battles pancreatitis too and his vet always prescribes anitbiotics for the inflammation. He is on a high fiber, low protein diet and this seems to really work for him. Hope your little one feels better soon!

| ![]() Please look lower and read my posts --- my Yorkie "Jeter" is going through the same thing, with very similar symptoms -- The vet originally though that it was pancreatitis but its turned out to be something else, yet unknown. You didn't say what the results of his CBC were --- very important. Pancreas doesn't show up very well on x-rays, you will need an ultrasound. If it is pancreatisis the treatment is several days no food or drink, just IV nutrients and then slowing introduce food - starting with either special dog food the science diet ID or you can give boiled chicken/chopped meat. If the blood sugars show low, you may need to add some karo syrup to the mix. Once he gets better you need to watch his diet very closely. One thing I would recommend to all yorkie owners is that when you go in for their annual checkup is to get the baseline CBC (complete blood count) -- that way if something happens the vet has a baseline to compare against --- my Jeters issues would be much easier to diagnose if we had an idea of what his normal values were. My prayers are with you. |

| ![]() Hello all, Thanks for all the feedbacks, I truly appreciate it. My baby is going to the vetenarian tomorrow. She wants 1 more blood drawn. He finished all of his antibiotics. He was feeling better but the same old symptons are showing up again - shaking, panting, crying when touching his belly (lower stomach area). I just don't know what to do anymore, I feel so helpless. All i can do is to hold him and try to relax him. Weird thing I noticed is when I holding him, he tends to stick out his head to the sideways. Does that makes sense? I noticed he was shaking and panting an hour ago (1AM) so I fed him some pain medication Vet. prescribed. He finally fell asleep on my bed, with his back laying flat. Sigh...Please pray for Mongki. I'll keep you guys updated! |
