| How do you cut your Yorkie's nails? Hi All, I was wondering how you all deal with the nail cutting situation. I've tried to cut Baby's nails before, but she freaks out. Once the vet cut her quick, and now she yelps with every nail. The reason I want to inquire about this is because I want to cut her nails myself b/c it's too expensive to keep getting them cut. The vet charges like 10 bucks...and her nails grow fast. So...I wanted to know: 1. How many of you cut your own Yorkie's nails? 2. How do you do it? 3. How do you keep your Yorkie still!!?? 4. What kind of nail clippers/scissors do you use? 5. How often do you cut them? Thanks in advance!!!!

| I have the groomers do Tiggers. Once a month. They let me hold him while they do it. If you do decide to do it at home make sure to have some stypic powder close by just in case.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I let the vet or groomer do it. I tried to do it myself last week and I got her front paws done and then I was starting the back paws and I don't know what I did but she screamed so loud and I felt so bad so I stopped. I took her to the groomer I use for my pom and had them shave her ears and finish her nails.

| I let them groomer do it....I don't like to be the bad guy and he acts like a completely different dog for her so it just seems easier to me.

| My Pippa hasn't had her nails cut yet. We walk alot so i think they file down quite naturally on the concrete ground. If they do need to be done i will get the vet to do it to be on the safe side.

| Until Tatum was about a year old, I had absolutely no problem doing them myself. She was so cooperative. Then I don't know what happened - she didn't have a bad experience with me I know that - but now she won't let me do it at all. I might get one snuck in but after that she wiggles so much I'm afraid I'll hurt her. So now, it's the groomer's job. She doesn't go to the groomer all that often since I do ear and hiney trimming after baths so I think we might have to think about making little trips to the vet to have her nails done a little more often.

| I have the groomer or vet do it...which ever one I am at first. My vet doesn't charge me anything when they do it, but they only do it if Mojo needs it when he goes in for a check up or something. The groomer always does it (I pay $20 to have everything done). I have tried it myself and have had my husband try it, but Mojo just does not like us to do it at all. We have played with his paws since he was very little, but he will not let us do it. He is pretty good for the groomer and vet though....and it is free....so, for me, why not save the stress on him and the worry on us and just have them do it!

| i also do both 1. How many of you cut your own Yorkie's nails? i've just started doing it myself. 2. How do you do it? i have him on his stomach for his hind legs, on his back for his front legs. 3. How do you keep your Yorkie still!!?? i give him a flossie to eat while i do it. he concentrates so much on the flossie, he barely notices the clippers. 4. What kind of nail clippers/scissors do you use? whatever's at the pet store grooming section. 5. How often do you cut them? i'm trying to do just a little bit per week. the quick is suppose to regress more into the paw if to keep the nails trim. it can also extend further out of the nail if the nail is left along all the time. it's best to do a little bit often just to get him used to the routine. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | I do mine, myself. They don't like it but I've never made one bleed so I must be doing something right. Just have to get a firm hold so they don't jerk their paw out of your hand. 1. How many of you cut your own Yorkie's nails? I do 2. How do you do it? They are on their backs where I have easy access to their nails 3. How do you keep your Yorkie still!!??talk to them in a calm, low voice 4. What kind of nail clippers/scissors do you use?they are clippers for dogs...don't know the name or brand 5. How often do you cut them?about once a month

| I cut mine. I use the dog nail clippers that have a hole their nail goes through Cut of just a small amount maybe 1/4th inch I usually do one nail per day, per dog when I brush them. If they are being good, I might do two or three on one foot. When they feel long, mostly the front nails, the back seem to stay shorter???

| I file Gus's nails. I don't like to clip them because they are so sharp after and I am scared of cutting to low. He just sits there now. I started when he was a baby. I would put him in my arms and hold him like a baby and play with his paws. I rough handled them and to get him used to me touching them. It wasn't easy at first. It helped when I would sing or hum to him. I hold him and put his paw to my lips and sing or hum. He loves it. He is really good about it now. He'll lay either in my arms or on my lap. He gets his nails filed after every bath,,, (once a week) I've been told that I look foolish doing it by my husband, but others think it's cute. I treat him just like the kids. My daughters still love it when I play with their hair and hum to them. My son on the other hand is too cool for that now.

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | I have always filed ours and done all the grooming. Baby Blessing is real easy to do and loves to get brushed and combed, I have been using the emory board on her nails once a week, I think starting at young enough age it helps. They love to be fussed over :-) |
