| kind of on the same lines as .. would you marry a man/woman if he/she didn't have short/long hair? there are a lot of us on here who doesn't have the akc standard look. and we love our pets every bit as much as any one who has a 'winner'. everyone has their own look and personality. I personally don't care if my neighbor says "I wouldn't have that dog if you gave it to me, its ugly". (would never happen, by the way). I would just fly back with "I could say the same about your spouse!"

| What all is said and done here, I will be curious to know how many breeders will be changing their practices due to the poll results, whatever they may be in the end. |

I voted and posted on this thread so I could show off Bitsy's beautiful tail. I have never gotten anything but positive comments on Bitsy when I've had her out. I, in no way was trying to sway anyone in one or the other direction....just took advantage of the topic to show off her tail I understand breed standard, thanks to this forum, but because I do not show dogs, tail or no tail really doesn't matter to me. I think most on here have yorkies that are pet quality and, if I have learned correctly, even the very best breeders don't always produce show quality dogs...but I certainly understand and applaud them for their efforts to produce as close to the yorkie standard as possible Very many people only learn about the breed standard AFTER they have already bought their dog...not all, but many! Thanks for letting me show off Bitsy's tail

| I would have still bought Lola if she had a full tail. In fact, the first question I asked the breeder is..."where is her tail?" I was surprised that a small breed would have it's tail docked. But I like her stump now. |

| I think this is a perfectly legitimate poll topic and I don't see why anyone would take offense to it??? I do appreciate all of the replies and I don't expect to change any breeders' minds but just show them that SOME people may actually "PREFER" the long tail and they may think twice about putting a pet quality puppy through the unnecessary trauma, especially those who are underweight at birth or not thriving. I think most reputable breeders already do this but some of the newer breeders may even "start a trend". If we ever develop a "Yorkie PET Standard" to compliment the "Yorkie Show Standard" I am sure it will include a full tail. |

| personally, i would not care either way- i actually feel stupid because i hadnt known prior to YT that they even had their tails docked, i had also thought the same as another poster that they were born with them that short b/c they are a small breed. i dont think un-docked tails detracts from their beauty or anything, so it wouldn't weigh heavily on my decision to get any dog. imo. but i am just wondering if anyone knows why they dock tails on any breed? is always purely cosmetic? i thought i had heard that they do it because some dogs [esp. larger breeds] have very strong, powerful tails? i may be way off, but im just wondering...i also dont see how this poll is offensive? it seems pretty harmless to me. alot less controversial than some other threads, anyway.

| I like Gucci's docked tail. But in the future if I find a Yorkie with an undocked tail i might consider it. I know the standard calls for docked tails, but if I find a yorkie like Bitsy i will get her without hesitation. I love Bitsy and her tail, too adorable. |

| Donating YT 7000 Club Member | I love Tucker's tail docked, but I also love the look of the long tails. I didn't vote because I love it either way.

Yorkshire Terrier Breed standard no where does it say "show" it is the standard plain and simple why must you always say "pet standard or show standard"
