| It is so sad to see how the liberals have rushed to "politicize" this tradgedy! I'm so glad our president doesn't stoop to their level when he has had many opportunities to do so. They should remember his kind words for Mrs. Clinton and President Clinton when he unvelied the Clinton's portraits in the white House. They should also remember how he graciously asked his father an President Clinton to co-chair the Tsunami Relief efforts. He didn't have to do that! He is a man of class, intlelligence, ethics and I am so proud he is our president. To say that he doesn't care about African Americans is absurd! I too think the federal government was about 24 hours late in New Orleans and we need to find out why, but the onus lies on the mayor and the governor for most of the failure to evacuate. President Bush called Gov. Blanco on Saturday before the hurricane and offered the National Guard and she turned him down! The mayor sent many empty city buses out of the city when it was clearly in the evacuation plan to use the buses to get people out. Right now we need to be thinking of the best ways to help these victims and the best ways to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. IMO, New Orleans should be rebuilt much smaller. God bless all the victims of Katrina in LA, MS and AL, and God bless America and our president!

| I'm going to try & focus on the positive & not on the politics. It's disgusting watching all the fingerpointing & pointless right now. I have a greater admiration for the Red Cross. I see it when there are disasters around the world & here. But they have been really impressive with this disaster. Normally, I would give to the Salvation Army but this time I gave to the Red Cross. And I absolutely adore the Army General in charge. Now he would make a great president some day! I forget the question that was asked but he answered it doesn't matter who did or didn't do, what's more important is what are YOU going to do. It's a time for America to come together & help these people to improve their life (paraphrased). He's so positive in how he looks at things & gives hope. He reminded me of JFK's statement, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

| I think it is amazing how an act of nature can be turned into such a politcial war! Why does everyone like pointing fingers? People waste so much time placing blame. If only this nation would put as much energy into trying to fix a disaster as it does arguing about whose fault it is(and this goes for the media BIGTIME!) it would be a much better place(IMO) .

Who cares about what your president did for Clinton? He called his daddy and his daddy's friend Clinton to get advice on what to do during such a tragedy - just like he probably did many times before (including 9/11). I have absolutely no respect for your President Bush and sometimes I wish I lived back in the 60's before the whole country was brainwashed by Republican rhetoric. Bush would never have been "in power" this long. What Kanye West said about your pres is true - it may come as a surprise that someone said something ALOUD on Nat'l television, but if this tragedy were in Florida or another area without so many blacks, the pres would have been on the scene immediately. We don't need to find out why this happened - we already know. Your president failed to allot money to fix the levies there. He said they could probably withold a large hurricane and he was wrong, AGAIN. You are right about the Mayor of New Orleans and Guv of Louisiana. They did nothing but flee to Baton Rouge. If you think N.O. should be rebuilt much smaller, where do you propose all the homeless people go? Would you be willing to have all the poor refugees who would be without homes live in your backyard? A lot of red states and people wouldn't. If you lived there, would you feel the same way?

| I can honestly say that if this had happened in an affluent neighborhood, i.e., Palm Beach, Hollywood, or Donald Trump's neighborhood I would not be nearly as generous and helpful as I am trying to be now. Is that reverse racism ? My heart goes out to the folks in NO who had little and lost all of it, but I think my heart wouldn't be as affected when the rich folks lose their vacation homes or the Mercedes. The point I'm trying to make is that it's not so easy to blame it on racism. I know I'm not the only person who would rush to help the needier moreso than the rich.

| I agree about the reverse racism thing -- I wouldn't donate as much as I did (not that it was much, I am broke myself) to an affluent neighborhood. And also, I've been thinking about what I said in my last post and a lot of it I meant, but the stuff about liberals caring more about dying people was just a bit of sarcasm that I was trying to related to the finger pointing. Just wanted to clear that up.

| Kristy, I know we are different sides of the fence and I respect that. As a matter of fact it would be boring if we were all on the same side of the fence. However, I was just wondering who 'your' president is. I just kinda figured all of us had the same president no matter where you stood.

| It was Bush -- I've never technically "liked" him, but I respected him and the fact that he was appointed to the presidency in 2000 by the Supreme Court. Now, after all that I believe he has done to fail our nation repeatedly, I don't have a President.

Where were the mayor of NO, the governor, their congressman, their senators? The levees financial support has been voted down by every politician since 1987, where was Clinton, the other Bush, and the rest of them? As far as him not liking black people, GET REAL NEW ORLEANS IS 70% BLACK! I tell you what, I don't care what I had to do, I would have walked out of NO, if I had no money or car. When someone tells you to get out, you get out! I am not a prejudiced person, I have biracial grandkids, and I do not care what color you are, as long as you treat me and mine with respect too. However, I am damn tired of every time ANYTHING happens to a black person that is negative, it is because they are BLACK. I have my share of troubles as has everyone, I don't sit and whine, oh wow, it is becuase I am a white female, Geez, give me an f'ing break. OJ, Michael Jackson, etc. We just had a case here in LA where an 18 month old was killed by the police, and of course, it was the police's fault. It had nothing to do with the fact that her father was shooting up the streets and at cops and actually hit one, while he was using her (his daughter) as a shield. It had nothing to do with the fact that not only was he loaded on drugs, but that poor child had drugs in her system. It was the police's fault! I for one am damn sick of folks not taking responsibility for their actions. If you are shooting at the rescure's then damn you can forget me helping you, I am not going to risk my life because you made a poor choice. And as far as looting, I do not think that when the streets are flooded, no power, no food - that designer shoes, suits, liquor and drugs are what you would honestly be looking for unless you are a thief! I think there were definitely some problems with the responses, however, start with local authorities, as the states home rule comes first. If the state and local representatives were in trouble, it was their responsibility and duty to ask the feds for help. This is a national tragedy and I don't know what is worse, the storm/hurricane/flooding or the damn blame game. Grow up and assume responsibility for yourselves, it is not the government's job to take care of you. |
