| Anyone have advice on point and shoot cameras? I am a VERY amateur photographer. I need a new camera (hopefully $300 and under). I have an older Sony cybershot. I'm looking for something that has an actual optical zoom, not just digital as I have now, and something that also takes vids. I can't afford a proper DSLR camera, I wish I could, but also I wouldn't know how to use it. Anyone have any faves of point and shoot cameras? I heard the Panasonic Linux os good which I'm thinking of. What do you all think? Oh I would love something good in low light. I always seem to be in low light, and the cybershot is NOT good for that unless you have a tripod, which I don't.

| Panasonic lumix was an AWESOME camera. I may buy another one, I think the newest is the TZ7. I owned the TZ5 in 2008 and used it for the many concerts I attended lol and the pics came out fantastic! The zoom is incredible. For the price of the camera, it's absolutely amazing, and so is the zoom. Brittany Webber | Facebook all the concert pics in here were taken with it. I sold my Rebel XS in order to purchase the Rebel T1i (Dslr) because I missed the video feature but I'm semi-considering getting a Lumix for $250 or so and use it until I can afford the T1i which the cheapest I've seen is like $700 and I don't have the $$$ right now. I've been debating myself because I LOVED my DSLR (XS) and it took amazing pics, but I learned I had started not bringing my camera places because I didn't feel like toting it around. I'm just not sure though since I've had the dslr image quality if I can go back or not but anyways... my 1st pic would probably be the Panasonic lumix tz7... with 12x zoom and HD video and under $300, it seems like a perfect choice and since I already know how my old lumix worked, I trust it. The recent pics I posted of Jackson in our 30 inches of snow were taken with my old Lumix which my dad now has. The sports and burst modes work really good outside. These pics were also taken with the TZ5.... dont mind my bro's goofy face.

| I got this one a couple of weeks ago on Amazon. It's now $179.95 "Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W290 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom and Super Steady Shot Image Stabilization" It's a very nice little camera, & takes very nice photos.

| I have a Canon G6 but you would only be able to pick one up on the secondary market (Ebay etc). I would get another one in a heartbeat if mine quit working. One of my friends has a Panasonic DMC-F228 takes amazing pictures and has awesome telephoto capabilities. Runs around $300 -$400 depending where you buy it. Has really good ratings in the photo mags I have seen it in. Wishing you good luck on your search! |

| I just checked the newer Powershot G10 and G11..boy that G10 sounds nice too. The G11 doesn't have RAW capabilities that is one strike against it in for me anyways. Has some capabilities like a DSLR..but not the weight and the worry about changing lenses. I would do an internet search to see what it has. Maybe you could find a good used one?? |
