Question Anyone have advice on point and shoot cameras?

I am a VERY amateur photographer. I need a new camera (hopefully $300 and under). I have an older Sony cybershot. I'm looking for something that has an actual optical zoom, not just digital as I have now, and something that also takes vids. I can't afford a proper DSLR camera, I wish I could, but also I wouldn't know how to use it.

Anyone have any faves of point and shoot cameras? I heard the Panasonic Linux os good which I'm thinking of. What do you all think? Oh I would love something good in low light. I always seem to be in low light, and the cybershot is NOT good for that unless you have a tripod, which I don't.
