I draw the line at halving a live lobster, or pulling off the head of a still wriggling spot prawn. I will however, gladly eat one if someone else does it. I have no problem with putting them in a pot though.

Michelle tried a raw oyster yesterday - she didn't chew tho - but she tried it !!!

Haha I almost chickened out on the raw oyster yesterday, but I thought you never know until you try it. I didn't chew and honestly all I could taste was the hot sauce and the taste of the ocean. we were having our annual wild game feast at our church. I had already eaten grouse, alligator, bear and wild turkey. I drew the line at possum and raccoon. Those I could not bring myself to try

I'm proud of you! Baby steps. Actually oyster is a huge leap.

Now I say for people who douse their oysters with cocktail sauce, hot sauce, lemon, salt, etc don't like the taste of oyster! If you ever want to try them again, try them with minimal toppings. However, I would suggest that you try several different varieties at the same time. It's like wine tasting. They all kinda taste the same to someone who doesn't like wine, but if you sip and savor each kind, and try one after another, you can tell the different tastes, smells, etc. Some oysters are sweet, some are briny, some are metallic, some are bland.

Blue Points and Kumamotos are great for beginners. Sweet, not metallic, not too briny, smooth, and not stinky. FYI don't eat any oysters that are stinky. LOL

Oh also if you have a good oyster shucker. Crappy ones don't cut the muscle on the bottom, and leave broken shells sometimes too. Not good eats.

I have only tried deer and wild turkey. I'm too chicken lol. Now Austin and Kevin will try anything!!

A few years back we had good family friends who raised ostrich. One day she asked me if I have ever eaten ostrich, and she should have us over soon so she could prepare it.

Well... and few weeks later she invited us and she served chilli. We (me, Alan and the girls) were enjoying the company and the food. When it came time for seconds she asked how we like the ostrich???? I had totally forgotten about her saying she was going to serve ostrich... we didn't have have seconds. lol

I always made my kids take one bite ( well.... miss Torry would take one lick )

To this day, I expose all of "my" kids to all different ethnic cuisines and try to give them a shot at a tasty life

Why do they halve the lobster alive? Seems like it would dilute the flavor of the flesh

I think it's when they put it on the grill. That was how they prepare them at Spago. I ate there once for my bday a long long time ago. We got counter seating and there's a good view of the open kitchen. There was one guy, his only job was to halve live lobsters in half. I actually ordered the lobster there. It was good! Easier for me to get to the brains too.
