| My maternal grandmother had a receipe handed down to her from my great great grandmother who lived on an actual plantation in the Old South. The recipe was called "Chocolate Gravy Breakfast Biscuits", which consisted of gravy apparently made the usual way except for the salt, had real European chocolate bits and butter melted into it(GGM had told her chocolate was very rare way back then) and served over sweetened, very light "soda biscuits". Grandmother always made this herself and served it to us grandchildren when we visited, using her breakfast china, and talked of her Grandmother and her many stories of the Old South. It was very, very sweet and rich tasting, really good to us since Grandmother made it herself. Apparently back in GGM's day, this breakfast was a treat for the children's breakfast on Sunday's when they had been especially good the week before.

| ![]() I was hungry before I started reading this thread! I'm not very adventurous with food. My dad hunts and fishes so I grew up eating a lot of wild meat, but got my fill of fish early in life and I can't stand seafood anymore. When I was 6 and my brother was 8, my mom accidently packed the wrong sandwiches in our lunches for school. He got my cucumber sandwich, and I got his headcheese sandwich I took one bite, thinking I did something wrong and my mom purposely put head cheese in my lunch to teach me a lesson! LOL! I tried to force that one bite down when my brother came to my classroom door with my sandwich, with the same disgusted look on his face that my mom made him eat a vegetable.I am going to Europe soon and I told myself I'd eat something "known" from every country we visit. The only one I'm looking forward to is Italy... pizza, pasta, and gelato But I will have to step out of my comfort zone in other places. Frog legs maybe? Haggis... Ugh, we'll see how I do!

| So I was at the market buying my necessary groceries, rum, artichoke hearts and a salad. The lady behind me was buying this Budweiser/Clamato thing, Chelada. I actually like Clamato, but without booze, but that just struck me as really bizarre. Apparently, a quick wiki search reveals this has been around since 2008 (premixed and sold as this by Bud) and is a hangover cure. I think I'll stick with menudo. If it were a better quality beer, I might give it a go.

It's called a Bloody Beer or a Red Beer and is actually VERY good! I make my own though. I have had the canned one and it's not bad. It's spicy and has a hint of lime. It's a big morning drink in Mexico

| OMG Noonie you kill me. 1st with the tacos picture and now this! lol So many of you have already named off some of my favorites Menudo, Tacos de tripa (the small intestines of farm animals, LOL!) Michiladas ( clamato, worcestershire, Tabasco, lime, salt, pepper, celery salt, and your favorite Mexican beer) TO DIE FOR! I have one ever week actually. I am also from a large Mexican family and I live in south Texas where you can get some pretty authentic Mexican food and let me agree with you that we eat some pretty strange food. None of the above seems strange to me though so I would have to say strangest out of comfort zone treats that I've enjoyed is Kopi Luwak (Coffee made from coffee berries that have been passed through the digestive system of a Indonesian cat like creature..yes pooped out). And the WORST Thing I've ever eaten so far is called Scrapple (a congealed loaf of meat scraps of all different kind of mammals) it's usually spread on toast or made into awful sandwich.. talking about it just made me gag a little.

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I think I just chucked in my mouth a little. I despise hominy. My Mom would make it when we were little, and I hated it so much. She'd still make me eat it. It made me gag. UGH. We may have to consider making the word hominy against YT Rules .
