What part of GA do you live in?? My husband and I both grew up in GA and still have alot of family there.

My husband was born and raised in Buchanan. My family is all from Carrollton, but moved to Alabama before I was born. Now we live in Tallapoosa.

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through! That has got to be so hard and you've been way more than understanding about it all.

I have a dumb question though, lol -- is child support different than owing money to a creditor? I only ask because I didn't think that you could go to jail for owing money to someone, although I'm guessing in this case it's different because it's his obligation to his child, and that is ongoing?

My husband grew up in Albany and i was born in thomasville and grew up in camila.

Trust me, i hate leaving the kids there. They are here all the time so that they can get help with homework or whatever and have a few days in a normal family. They stay pratically all summer.

What about child welfare or a social service ????? i would be bugging these people on a daily basis until i had my child out of there...

He can go to jail for failing to pay COURT ORDERED child support. Failing to pay means he is in contempt of court - so off to jail he goes. Also, if you are a certain amount behind in child support, it can go on your credit report.

Oh, I gotcha! Well I truly hope that this knocks some sense into him! I know that my dad was flighty with paying child support. He would give us kids cash, but not give it to my mom because in his mind it was for what "we" wanted. Needless to say that did not go over well!

Here in NC there is a Child suppory ennforcement agency in raleigh. If you are court ordered to pay child support it shows on your credit and if you get behind it comes out of your taxes every year and they can garnish your wages ( though the employers do not have to sign the paper to allow it to be taken out of the wages).
If you miss a payment to child support the mother can file for non payment and can take the father to court without the father even knowing that it is in court. then they can issue a warrant if they find the father in contempt.

He has some of the same notions in his head. He can't understand that child support is for the care and support of her - that rent, electricity, food, etc all fall under that category. He thinks I'm supposed to take her on a $400 shopping spree whenever he sends it.

They dont care. They think that fathers should just provide the money but not have custody. It takes alot of money to fight for and win custody if your a father. But they will give a crack head mother their child back after they abadoned it (it happened here in NC a few years ago)...people with power have their priorties all wrong!!

Yep, they can also suspend their driver's license. I think the way it works here is 30 days behind and they get a "warning", 60 days behind suspended license, etc.

That definitely sounds like how my dad looked upon it, and my mom had such a hard time with it all. Finally I moved in with my dad and my mom agreed to take care of my brother, and my dad to take care of me. Which, I always hated that arrangement.. it's like I only "belonged" to one parent, it was odd.

It is very sad. I HATE the way the family court system works - and this is coming from a mother who would DIE before her ex got custody of her own daughter.

DH and I applied to be foster parents once and we couldn't do it. It is just crazy what the parents do and get away with and get chance after chance after chance.

I thought about that plenty!! But then we would not only loose them when we got caught, but we would also loose our 2 children. There are no laws protecing fathers in NC. I know one guy who is paying child support for one child (not even his, but was born while him and his wife were still married so its his responsibility) $900 a month!! He cant even afford to live in the slums by the time he pays the child support and the insurance. Wow !! i am just lost for words !!!, i know alot of really GOOD DADDY's that had to raise there kids, and they did a wonderful job... I just can't believe there not even giving him a chance. Anything would be better than living with his mother on drugs... I just pray nothing happens to those kids....
As for that poor guy paying for a kid that's not even his that is just CRAZY !!!
