| ![]() I can relate to so many of these posts. I was born 57 years ago, PLUMP. Grew up all my life, PLUMP. I have two sisters and a brother that are THIN. I always wondered if I was adopted. I was always teased growing up, by friends as well as family (including my parents). Now I'm on a downhill run as far as my age. My past experiences with weight drove a permanent wedge between myself and my parents, siblings, and some of my friends. I didn't need it then, and I sure don't need it now. I am a very active person, but I am still PLUMP. Maybe that's why I love my dogs so much. They could care less, if I'm PLUMP.

| ![]() See the difference? You chose the word plump, NOT fat. "Fat" is an offensive word. That's all I was saying to eensor yesterday when she got all defensive. Her saying the woman is "fat" is just as bad as laughing at the photo IMO.

| ![]() NO NO! I dont wanna fight either. I F'n HATE drama more then you know lol. Maybe its just me. I hate the word "fat" I remember growing up with this complex because my great grandmother used to tell me how fat I was.........and I believed her. It wasn't until A couple years ago that I realized she was insane. I was 13 and only 60 pounds, but yet I believed her.

| ![]() I can understand so many of the things posted..I grew up with both of my parents being hispanic..just not to the world..you see my mother looks like a dark complexion black woman..and my dad looks white. I look like NEITHER ..LOL I , am tan and basically now I love myself ..but school was horrible.."what are you mixed with was common.". for me to hear..but I didnt realize I was MIXED with anything..I just had two parents that were different shades..but both very strong in our culture. I have a son who is dark complexion and get this..my ex- husband is white... so we have heard it all..most people ASSUME we (his parents) are babysitting OUR son.. so we have heard it all.. ! chellie

| ![]() Actually, I am from a heavy family. I work hard to keep off the weight, still go up and down. My boys lean towards heavy also. (actually we use the word heavy and do consider 'fat' undesirable.) My son called his brother fat, I told him - I dont call my sister fat - it is rude. He says - Aunt Gail isn't fat! (she is about 300#) I found that a positive.

| ![]() When my son was little, he had this gorgeous, very blonde, head of curls. Me with my almost black, straight hair. People would always ask if I bleached his hair - I found it sorta amusing. Maybe we all have our sensitive points. One of my friends daughter in 3rd grade was crying because another girl called her 'fat'. She wasn't heavy AT ALL, but the girl who called her fat was HUGE. We couldn't convince her of the comparison. That is a very mean age.

| ![]() Reading this thread I can't help but think about my students! I was teaching a class last semester and the topic for that week was Diversity! I NEVER in a million years expected to get resistance on that topic but I did! My students who are about 22-24 made the most hateful, hurtful, derogatory comments I have ever heard in my life! I was so appalled I left that class crying my eyes out! I was trying to explain that diversity simply meant difference and in todays global workforce diversity is an asset b/c you get different cultures with different ideas, opinions and it all equals a better outcome! I'm sad that our society has not yet come up to speed with respect and equality. |
