The single most thing I am missing since being on this dang diet is my sweettea! Drinking it unsweet with Splenda or Sweet 'N Low added is not the same at all! Course that sweettea may have at least something to do with the reason I had to go on this diet in the first place. I guess it is my bitter sweettea. LOL!

| ![]() Gosh ya'll are making me hungry again. Did anyone mention peanut brittle or a good ole batch of homemade ice cream. Fresh peach was my favorite. My granny had lots of peach trees.

| ![]() This would be a perfect opportunity to tell ya'll about one of my favorite author's book: The Sweet Potato Queen's Big A$$ Cookbook and Financial Planner by Jill Conner Brown. She has recipes for southern food, including what she calls "funeral food" (which she has compiled the best of the best from all the best funerals in Mississippi) and "Chocolate Stuff" which is nothing short of wonderful. Oh, and don't forget "Fat Mama's Knock you Naked Margaritas". If you have never read Jill's books, I highly recommend them if you are in the mood to laugh out loud. My husband kept asking me, "what's so funny" while I was reading the first book 'cause I dissolved into fits of giggles reading it. Start with "The Sweet Potato Queen's Book of Love".

You'll have to buy the squash in a grocery store this time of year, but you need a couple pounds. Wash it really well and cut both ends off. Cut the squash in circles about a half inch thick and set aside. Fry 4 strips of bacon and remove from iron skillet. Leave drippins'. In hot drippins, saute 1 bunch of cleaned green onions (green parts and all) When the onions start turning slightly brown, add all the squash and start stirring. Turn the heat down and cook on medium until the squash is tender and some will have brown edges. Add salt and pepper to taste (and crumpled bacon)and make sure you stir it a lot at first to keep from sticking. I use a spatula to stir up from the bottom and I have a huge cast iron skillet I cook it in. I use cast iron for everything. I have both of my grandmothers iron skillets and they were both wonderful cooks. Also, anyone remember egg custard pie?
