Exactly! My mother in law is from up there, but she divorced my father in law when my hubby was young, so he grew up down here - when we visit, we end up eating out most of the time because she has no clue how to cook and they never have sweet tea! My hubby hates soda, but sometimes he resorts to it just because the tea doesn't taste right to him when we're up there

If anyone wants to know how to make a good southern meal and dessert, just ask me. I grew up eating all those wonderful southern dishes.

You'll have to buy the squash in a grocery store this time of year, but you need a couple pounds. Wash it really well and cut both ends off. Cut the squash in circles about a half inch thick and set aside.

Fry 4 strips of bacon and remove from iron skillet. Leave drippins'. In hot drippins, saute 1 bunch of cleaned green onions (green parts and all) When the onions start turning slightly brown, add all the squash and start stirring. Add salt and pepper to taste (and crumpled bacon)and make sure you stir it a lot at first to keep from sticking. I use a spatula to stir up from the bottom and I have a huge cast iron skillet I cook it in. I use cast iron for everything. I have both of my grandmothers iron skillets and they were both wonderful cooks.

Man am I hungry. All this stuff sounds great! MY personal favorite southern food is country fried steak with gravy & whompum biskits. In case you're wondering what whompum biskits are, well you take em out of the fridge, peel off the label, & whompum on the counter, then cookem.

Ya' know, the only really Southern thing I haven't heard mentioned is pecan pie! I don't care for it myself, but my sister makes 'em all the time for her family.
