| Angel fish? Anyone? We enjoy fish keeping. Our platys just had 8 babies. We have them in a floating breeder tank in the big tank. We have a few different fish in different tanks; we have fancy gold fish in their own tank, the orange platys in another, some columbian sharks in their own tank and now we've got two black and white striped angel fish (breeding pair). I've been reading up on them for a while but there's nothing better than hands-on experience. I've already noticed that they've "mated off" and are like each other's shadow in the tank. If anyone has any experience with angel fish, my daughter and I would greatly appreciate it! I am feeding them flake and blood worms. Thanks in advance for any info. |

I used to love to watch them dart to the top for a bite then zip back down! My friend told me I can feed my Angels and Platys raw veggies like zucinni (sp) squash. I'm wondering how that would affect the tank's bacteria level.

Do you use any kind of water conditioner for your frog? Like stress coat or aloe vera? Just wondering. When we had ours the people at petsmart said we didn't need to use any thing like that, but since I used tap water, I would put a few drops in to condition their water. Just wondering what you do for yours because my daughter would like to get another one. She loved having them and I have to admit they are very cool to watch. Do you only feed yours baby brine shrimp? Maybe I was feeding the wrong food. We had them in a pretty good sized fish bowl with pebbles in the bottom and some rocks to hide under. As soon as I'd drop pellets in every other day (at the advice of the all knowing pet smart fish keepers, lol) they'd come out and dart for the bite. Just curious...never talked to anyone else who had them too! Last edited by ButterflyYorkie; 02-10-2007 at 05:15 AM.

I only feed it ghost shrimp now but When I 1st got it, I was feeding it left over betta food, from when my betta died and then I went to reptile pellet that I found at walmart... I saw the ghost shrimp at walmarts and got 2 of them (there like 16 cent a peace) to see if froggy would eat it.. if not it would have company. As soon as they hit the water and went to the bottem, I went to find the food I got for the shrimp and when I came back.. one was gone. The frog had it in its mouth eatting it and was staring at the other one...So now thats all I feed it and I get the betta food for the shrimp, to keep them nice and fat for froggy. ( I put like one pellet for every 5 shrimp, they also eat the algae in the tank) I get like 20 shrimp at a time and it last from 3 or more weeks (Depending how much of a piggie it is.). As soon as I see froggy out of shrimp or on his last one, I go and buy more. you do have to have a fliter thing for the tank other wise the shrimp will die. this is what the shrimp that I get, looks like Click here

Hey, thanks! This is great info for us. We really were doing things wrong for them I guess. I know exactly what you are talking about, the ghost shrimp at our super walmart are 12 cents each. I think they're pretty much a big "sea monkey" (if you remember those, lol!!) I have an empty, little 3-ish gallon hobby tank that we had a gold fish in at one time, I think I can fit a very small pump in it. If the extra one I have now is too big, there is a size smaller that I can get. Distilled water also sounds like a good route to take and also a money saver as far as treatments. We can boil our own, right? I think we'll do like last time and get two again. They are the cutest things...that is if you like frogs!

I would not see why you cant boil your own... You would just have to do it ahead of time and let it cool to room temp. I just went out and got the 60 something cent one gal jugs. (im lazy lol) yeah they do look like sea monkeys, but they live a lot longer lol Last edited by OLIVIA_KARHIS; 02-10-2007 at 06:52 AM.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I've had angel fish, cychilds (separate tanks) and numerous other fish. The mated angel fish you have will become very aggressive towards your other fish. In our 55 gal tank the mated pair would take about 1/4 of one end of the tank as theirs - wouldn't let other fish anywhere near. I always used water conditioner, tap water contains chlorine and the conditioner removes that, as well as helps protect the slimy coating fish need for their best health. It isn't expensive $5 for a bottle and it lasts for quite awhile, you only use about a capful for 5 gal of water. We also fed vegetables to our fish, they loved zuccini squash, and cucumbers. And, they do need a varied diet beyond the commercial flakes. Just remember to remove any zuccini slices after a bit, bc it will trash the water. We also feed all of our fish mysis shrimp, they looove these! They are frozen and can be found usually anywhere they sell the bloodworms. The mysis shrimp might be a better choice too for the little frogs too?

| I have a big, beautiful angel fish that is at least 5 years old - my sister gave me this aquarium 3 years ago and she had it for 2 years before that, so it might be even older than that. My aquarium is 30 gallons and has the angel fish, 7 black skirt tetras (that are at least 4 years old, only one has died since I got the tank), a pleco, and some bloodfin tetras. I don't do anything special for my fish. I should, I know, but I never have and this tank has the longest-living fish I've ever had. I rarely clean it, but it's never dirty. I must have found just the right balance of fish or location because this is the cleanest, healthiest aquarium I've ever had. I feed them flake food and tubifex worms. That's it. I don't do anything to treat the water. We aren't on city water, but a community well. I have been considering getting another angel fish because I LOVE them, but I don't know if this one would be aggressive to a new one or not. It isn't aggressive at all to any of the tetras, but they have all been together for years. I've never had a mated pair, so I don't know anything about that. |

| I personally haven't ever had any angelfish, I have a friend who has a few and says that they need tall tanks because of tall they get vertically. I love fish.. I have three goldfish and have had tropical fish in the past. I went to a pet store that had a HUGE selection of angelfish a few months ago.. they had angel fish that were called "koi angel fish" and their colors (black, white, orange) were exactly like koi fish. Beautiful!

| Thanks everyone for all the info. Especially about them becoming agressive. I've noticed that they already "hang out" in a certain area on right side of tank. Now I'm thinking on maybe a tall, corner tank for them. Kyle- I've never seen any like that...I'll be on the lookout. I bet they are beautiful! |
