| Can anyone suggest a puppy for a 6 yr old bou He is 6 and wants a puppy. They want one thats gentle and fun for a little boy to play with in the house. no outside dog. I think his dad would rather it didnt have long hair that sheds Just a pretty small dog that is good with kids. Anyone have any ideas of some of the latest models? LOL My grandson is very gentle with things. He only has a sister and she is 20 yrs old and works and goes to college. there is 14 yrs difference in their ages so my son and his wife are like raising two separate families.

| I vote for s Shih Tzu... They have long hair but do not shed and if desired you can clip them into short styles. I got my first shih tzu when I realized our big sheepdogs were too big to play with my kids. I wanted something sturdy but small and not notorious for barking, shedding or biting. My shih tzu were so quiet and a kid coukd pick one up and swing it over their heads( it didnt happen of course) and they would just let them. They are non shedding and are very snuggly They have plenty of energy and usually are approx 10 lbs .They arent too dainty for a little kid that knows how to treat a dog. Bonnie |

| I say a yorkie Keep the hair short if you don't want to deal with the long hair. My kids do well with mine and the yorkies are good with my kids.

| Yorkies can be too delicate for a 6 year old, especially a boy. I say, go for the Shi-tzu. My sister in law has one (and a 6 year old boy, to boot!) and he's great with the kids, and the kids are good with him. Shi-tzus are a little sturdier than Yorkies, and grow a little bigger (but no so big they can't be house-only dogs.) |

| Shih Tzu are great dogs, I have breed and shown them years ago. They are great inside dogs and they do not shead. I still have one stud dog and one of my friends has two male puppies out of him for sale. They are the best of dogs. You can see the father of these puppies if you would like at my web site www.sumtoiyorkies.com He is on the Show Pictures page, the red and white boy, his weight full grown is 9 pounds. Shih Tzu are the absolute happiest dogs ever. They were breed for love and to be the lap dogs of the Imperial Palace. And sure a nice big Yorkie will do too. Debbie Ray www.sumtoiyorkies.com |

| Havenese I heard that Havenese are supposed to be great with kids. My friend just got one and she has 4 rough kids. I think they get up to 10-15lbs. I wouldn't get a yorkie for a 6yr old boy. Too delicate. suz |

| beagle my vote for a kid's puppy goes to a small beagle. You can get a 12 or 13 inch beeagle. They are extremely good with kids and can easily be housetrained and kept clean. |

| WEll after havingabout everydog under the sun here in the rescue AND small boys.....Here would be my choices for dogs that did great with the boys and were STURDY Miniature Schnauzer Shih Tzu and big but quite love bugs... Irish Setter I found that these 3 breeds were playful but not overpowering with the younger children and could also take a good playful romp with them without me worrying about either my kids or the dogs

| What about a grey hound rescue?? These are the most gentle dogs you will ever meet. They can stay inside and they just lounge around all day. My aunt rescued one and they are such gentle giants! As your grandson gets older, I'm sure that he would appreciate more of a "manly" dog, if you know what I mean. If not a grey hound, then I vote for a beagle, or a pug! Pugs are small and great dogs. |

| If you're looking for something that doesn't shed, what about a labradoodle or a goldendoodle? They are big dogs but THEY DON'T SHED! How awesome is that?! My husband and I are going to get a Goldendoodle one day. They are precious. Just look at this pic! |
